Even Angela Bassett Isn't 'Impervious' To The Effects Of Aging

Growing older is not for the faint-of-heart ― and that includes celebrities. Actress Angela Bassett, 57, told PeopleStyle that not even she is “impervious” to the impacts of aging.

In the interview, Bassett ― star of the “American Horror Story” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” ― says that her weight on the scale still creeps up. “It used to be easier,” she told PeopleStyle, “even as much as a year ago.”

Bassett said she takes the changes in stride, and thinks everyone else should as well. “We check ourselves out in the mirror every day, we see the changes but you have to just do the best for yourself,” she said.

To stay fit, Bassett says she lifts weights.

“If I can work out for 30 minutes, I feel good. Sometimes I can’t, but [I like] to think, ‘Who can’t do that?’ My philosophy is: Do the best you can and do something that you enjoy. For me, I like free weights,” she said.

As for Bassett, she launched a skin care line this month with her dermatologist and friend Dr. Barbara Sturm. The five-piece line addresses hyper-pigmentation and inflammation, “which skin of color is more prone to,” says Sturm.

Bassett is, of course, not the first celebrity to own or lend her name to a beauty product line. Salma Hayek reintroduced her Nuance line earlier this year with an eye toward anti-aging products. And remember Jennifer Yen, who fought the Power Rangers as the evil villain Vypra back in the ‘90s? She is now CEO and founder of Pur-lisse, a skin care line.
