OK, so it’s not Johnny Karate, but this is the next best thing.

In a move that surprised everyone, “Guardians of the Galaxy” revealed its biggest mystery at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. It turns out Kurt Russell’s character, Ego, from the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” is Star-Lord’s daddy.

In the comics, Ego the Living Planet is a mass that has evolved over millions of years and has developed its own intelligence and consciousness. And now it’s being played by Kurt Russell, so congrats, Ego. You made it.

In the comics, Peter Quill’s (aka Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt) dad is the Spartoi Emperor J’son. We already knew the movie version was going to be different, but how can a planet be Star-Lord’s father?

Well, as iO9 reports, in footage shown at Comic-Con, Ego explains how he made his form look human. Drax asks Ego whether he has a penis. Ego confirms he does.

So, yeah, that’s how.

Director James Gunn took to Facebook on Sunday to explain why he revealed the secret.

“I knew it was gonna get out there eventually. Eventually, we’ll do test screenings; eventually people will see the movie. Things are gonna get out, and I wanted it to come from us. I didn’t want it to come from someone else,” said Gunn.

The director went on to say he didn’t want the secret to get in the way of the movie:

The reveal isn’t who his father is. The reveal is the story within the movie itself, and I didn’t want this big secret to take prominence over what’s really important, which is the emotional story that has to do with Peter Quill with his two dads, in a way. It’s his father, his biological father [Ego] and then the abusive father Yondu, who raised him, and the interaction between those three characters is one of the central stories of the movie, and I didn’t want it to be something that we made it all about “Who’s the father, who’s the father, who’s the father?” That doesn’t really interest me. That’s not a kind of guesswork storytelling that I’m that into.

Hmm ... it sounds like your daddy issues are just getting started, Star-Lord. Good luck, man.
