Obama Responds To 8-Year-Old Who Has Really Big 'Politics Worries'

An 8-year-old concerned about the United States being “a sad place” wrote a letter to President Barack Obama, and she had some creative suggestions on how to cheer up the country.

Lily wrote to the president in her letter, which was posted on the White House’s official Facebook page, that she thinks “this country needs more spunk,” especially in light of recent events.

“With all the attack[s], the Zika virus, and the wars, this country is a very sad place,” she wrote.

Luckily, Lily had some ideas for the president to try out from wearing a “tie-dye shirt and shorts to something important” to taking his family to Disney World. She also politely asked Obama to “say something that will make everyone calm.”

She added, “You do not know how many politics worries I have.”

Lily, whose “backup job” is to be president (she’s going to be a cardiovascular surgeon first, of course), had such creative suggestions that the president replied. In his letter, Obama thanked Lily’s father for his military service, commended the 8-year-old for her spunk and reassured her that she can “help keep our Nation strong,” even in times of adversity.

I know things happening around the world can sometimes be worrisome, but we can make real and lasting progress if young people like you focus on growing and learning and keep speaking out about important challenges our Nation faces. As long as I serve in this Office and beyond, I’ll continue fighting to ensure kids all across our country are limited by nothing but the scope of their imaginations and the size of their dreams.

Obama ended his letter by telling the young dreamer that he expected “great things” from her.
