He may be small, but he’s a big man on campus.
Daniel Liu, an 11-year-old who is taking organic chemistry at the University of Toledo, has captured Twitter’s heart after a classmate snapped a photo of him and posted it to the social media site:
“This kid is 11 and in my organic chemistry class,” classmate Cigdem Kahyaoglu tweeted Aug. 22. “He said if we have questions to just email him.”
The photo already has over 200,000 likes and 100,000 retweets.
Naturally, once the student body at the Ohio university caught wind of Daniel’s viral photo, some of his classmates approached him for a pic of their own:
Liu is quite the accomplished scholar. When he was 10, he started attending classes at Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo. He has taken numerous AP courses, including physics, statistics and calculus, as well as honors chemistry. He also plays the cello and piano.
Last year he won the Chemical Education Foundation’s “You Be the Chemist” competition, which quizzes kids on chemistry concepts and their real-world applications. After the competition, Daniel received a $10,000 check and a medal ― and even posed for a photo with Bill Nye the Science Guy.
It seems like when Daniel is involved with chemistry he’s definitely in his element.
