Seth Meyers Lifts Ban On Trump, But Says 'Late Night' Is 'Pretty Booked Up'

When Seth Meyers banned Donald Trump from “Late Night,” it was — you know — yuuuuge.

The “Late Night” host issued the ban in response to Trump revoking The Washington Post’s press access to his campaign. The GOP candidate has since lifted his ban on reporters. Even though the ban from “Late Night” is gone, too, not a lot is going to change.

“I guess, yeah, we’ll have to lift the ban,” Meyers told The Huffington Post. “But the reality is we’re pretty booked up, so I don’t know if we have a ton of slots for him, but he should call in. He should call and see if there’s an opening.”

In addition to “Late Night,” Meyers opened up about the second season of “Documentary Now!” The comedian is one of the creators of the series, which parodies popular documentaries.

“The War Room,” the first documentary parodied in Season 2, tells the story of former President Bill Clinton’s rise to the White House with the help of larger-than-life characters, including George Stephanopoulos and James Carville. When asked about the possibility of Trump taking a similar path and getting elected, Meyers said, “Of course” it could happen.”

“I think he certainly has a better chance than anyone would’ve guessed a year ago, and I think he’s found a way to campaign that maybe people hadn’t ever done before,” he added. “Whatever you think about him, he’s obviously had his successes. He certainly outperformed my expectations of him.”

If the presidential hopeful did come on his show as a guest, Meyers does have one question he’d make sure to ask.

“I would ask him, if he wins, what his plans are for late-night talk show hosts and whether or not he will allow them to continue doing their jobs,” Meyers said.
