This year’s Emmys have a more diverse set of nominees than ever before, and host Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t help but take a second to acknowledge that.

“Here in Hollywood, the only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity,” the host said Sunday night from the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. “The Emmys are so diverse the year, the Oscars are now telling people we’re one of their closest friends. Still, he wanted the crowd to take a moment to savor how far Hollywood has come.

“If you’re a person of color, please, find a white person ― it shouldn’t be hard, I see a bunch of them right here ― just take a moment to reach out and say thanks for your bravery,” he said.
