Miley Cyrus Calls Out Mariah Carey For Basically Being Mariah Carey

I was like, why you so obsessed with me?

It must be Thursday because another young pop star has something to say about Mariah Carey. Following Demi Lovato’s failed attempts to insert herself into Carey’s long-standing feud with Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus has apparently been passed the anti-Mimi baton, and she’s running with it.

First, some backstory. NBC somehow convinced the “Wrecking Ball” singer to be a coach on “The Voice” this season, and on a recent episode she counseled a contestant by stating the obvious that not everybody can be Mariah Carey. Her point was to encourage the performer to share their story in an authentic way, but the moment was shady enough to be a talking point in Miley’s recent cover story for Elle magazine’s October issue.

“I’ve never really been a fan, because it’s so much about Mariah Carey. That’s part of her shtick; I can see through that,” Cyrus said. “That’s part of what makes her a gay icon; like, it’s about Mimi! It’s about what she’s wearing, and it’s about her. What I make isn’t about me. It’s about sharing my story; it’s about someone being connected to what I’m saying.”

Yes, because shtick is something Miley knows nothing about ...

But Mariah wasn’t the last stop on Cyrus’ shade train. She also poked fun at whether Britney Spears “knows how to text” (how do you think she puts in her Cheetos orders?!) and described her as “distant in her world.”

“Every time [Britney] puts out new music, I’m like, is that what she wants to be doing? Or does she just want to chill?” Cyrus said. “She’s looking so good right now, and looking happy.”

It’s like she’s begging for another “Miley, what’s good?” moment, right? Professor Minaj was very clear regarding the consequences of dragging someone else’s name through the press.

But hey, Miley did get one thing right. This is what a GAY ICON looks like.
