Gold Star Father Khizr Khan Rips Trump Supporters, Asks Where GOP's 'Family Values' Went

“How will they rebuild this party?”

Gold Star father Khizr Khan has a question for the Republican party: Whatever happened to supporting family values?

Once a cornerstone of the GOP, the family values platform vanished as the party faithful embraced crude-talking real estate mogul Donald Trump.

“How will they rebuild this party?” Khan asked on Lawrence O’Donnell’s “The Last Word” on Monday night. “They used to be the banner-bearer of the family values. Is this their representative? Why haven’t they all repudiated him and distanced so that they can rebuild the Republican party to be the family values as it used to be?”

The father of Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan, a soldier who was killed in combat during the Iraq War in 2004, Khan rose to national prominence during the Democratic National Convention when he pulled a copy of the U.S. Constitution out of his pocket and offered to give it to Trump.

Let me ask you, have you even read the U.S. Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy,” Khan said. “Look for the words ‘liberty’ and ‘equal protection of law.’”

Trump and his surrogates spent the post-convention period trying to smear Khan and his family.

After Sunday night’s debate, Khan said his view of the candidate hadn’t changed.

“This person lacks empathy to be the leader of this country,” Khan said. “He had displayed exactly the same character that he displayed from the beginning.”
