Doctors in New York have successfully separated 13-month-old twin boys who were conjoined at the head.

Jadon and Anias McDonald endured more than 16 hours of surgery at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center before going through several more hours of operations so that doctors could reconstruct their skulls, CNN reported.

Jadon was the first to be released from the operating room around 8 a.m.

The boys’ mother, Nicole, posted a photo on Facebook of Jadon by himself on a hospital bed, saying that Anias was still undergoing surgery.

McDonald posted several updates on Facebook about the surgery and her trials and tribulations waiting to find out how her boys were doing.

Anias’ surgery was completed around 1 p.m. Friday.

Both boys are recovering in the intensive care section of the hospital. They are expected to be intubated for at least a week, according to ABC Chicago.
