Plenty of baseball fans were stunned on Wednesday when Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox won the Cy Young Award over Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers.
Verlander had 14 first-place votes for the award, compared with eight for Porcello ― but because the Boston pitcher received many more second-place votes, he had a higher total score.
In addition, two baseball writers in Florida left Verlander off their ballots completely, which didn’t help his score.
That didn’t sit right with a number of fans ... including someone who just might be Verlander’s number one fan: his fiancee, Kate Upton.
She fired off a tweet that didn’t mince words:
Hey @MLB I thought I was the only person allowed to fuck @JustinVerlander ?! What 2 writers didn't have him on their ballot?
— Kate Upton (@KateUpton) November 16, 2016
She also sent a couple of follow-up tweets:
He had the majority of 1st place votes and 2 writers didn't have him on their ballots?!! can you pick more out of touch people to vote?@MLB
— Kate Upton (@KateUpton) November 16, 2016
Sorry Rick but you didn't get any 1st place votes? you didn't win. #ByeFelicia @MLB keep up with the times and fire those writers

Here’s some of the reaction:
Find someone that sticks up for you the way Kate Upton does Justin Verlander https://t.co/sUG5O8qiea

Kate Upton's tweet deserves a Cy Young award.

Gotta respect Kate Upton's subtle way of reminding us that Verlander may have lost the Cy Young but is probably pleased with his life.
— Chad Finn (@GlobeChadFinn) November 17, 2016
It's OK Kate...I only got 4 votes.....total. Nobody likes me 😭https://t.co/NVkQvZ7sKu

Kate Upton is like an 18-year-old who just learned what the electoral college is.

I think we can all agree @KateUpton wins tonight.👏🏼
— Erin Alvey (@ErinAlveyOSully) November 17, 2016
Someone give Kate Upton a snickers
— Ring My Mel (@SportsMel) November 17, 2016
A few hours after Upton’s tweetstorm, Verlander issued his own response:
Just want to say thank you to all the @officialBBWAA who voted for me.
