Pop-Tarts And Dunkin' Donuts Just Made A Food Baby And It's... Interesting

What do you get when you put two average snacks together?

I hate Pop-Tarts.

They smell medicinal and sort of taste like cardboard. I have no fond childhood memories involving them and they were never my after-school snack.

That said, the Pop-Tarts and Dunkin’ Donuts snack collaboration intrigued me.

PopTarts

I thought, “Dunkin’ Donuts doughnuts are very average so when combined with the mediocrity of a Pop-Tart, magic is sure to happen.” Sadly, this partnership is not a Pop-Tart-flavored doughnut or a doughnut-flavored Pop-Tart.

It’s coffee beverage-flavored Pop-Tarts. Specifically, a Frosted Chocolate Mocha Pop-Tart and Frosted Vanilla Latte Pop-Tart.

The press release says the Chocolate Mocha Pop-Tarts are “filled with chocolatey-espresso goodness and topped with whipped cream-inspired frosting” and the Frosted Vanilla Latte Pop-Tarts offer “a rich, sweet vanilla flavor and coffee-frosting swirl.”

Because I despise Pop-Tarts and only mildly hated the Mocha Pop-Tarts (an achievement, I promise you), I forced the HuffPost newsroom to eat these and tell me their thoughts.

Here’s how they felt about the Frosted Chocolate Mocha Pop-Tart:

THE GOOD

“I could barely taste the espresso aspect of the mocha, but I would probably eat this Pop-Tart hot again because it tastes like a brownie.” - Katy Brooks, Senior Arts & Culture Editor

THE BAD

“Everything is really good until you stop eating it. It’s got a coffee aftertaste that I feel has ruined my breath for the rest of time.” - Abigail Williams, Director of College Outreach

“I would think it was just a plain, ole boring chocolate Pop-Tart if you didn’t tell me there was mocha involved.” - Elyse Wanshel, Trends Editor

“The chocolate pastry part of this didn’t really work for me. It was fine, but I’d go for the classic strawberry Pop-Tart over this one.” - Hilary Hanson, Trends Editor

“A bit malty for my taste.” - JamesMichael Nichols, Deputy Editor of Queer Voices

“The chocolate just had an overwhelming taste (not in a good way).” - Taryn Finley, Associate Editor of Black Voices

“A bit too strong for my liking ― the taste stays in back of throat.” - Nina Golgowski, Trends Editor

THE UGLY
