Streetlight Saves Pedestrian From Death By Speeding Car

A Polish woman survived a car crash when a street lamp took the hit for her.

A pedestrian going about her errands in the Polish town of Kalisz was incredibly unlucky — then astonishingly lucky when a car speeding straight at her was stopped by a streetlight just inches away.

The startling fate of the unidentified woman was captured on CCTV surveillance footage.

The video shows the woman falling to the ground as a black sedan slams into the lamppost. But it’s not clear if she is jolted off her feet by the crash or falls from pure shock. She pops back up on her feet, apparently completely uninjured, and backs away.

The once-in-a-lifetime chain of events began as a white car turned left in front of oncoming traffic. A black sedan struck the car, shearing off its front bumper before careening out of control, straight for the woman.

In the video, she can be seen pinning herself against the wall behind her, turning left, then right, trying to decide which way to dash. But there’s no time to get out of the way.

The streetlight, however, knew exactly what to do. The car came to a dead halt after crashing into it and the light remained standing.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, The Associated Press reports.
