Just Kidding, 'American Idol' Might Not Be Gone After All

Fox’s long-running reality singing competition “American Idol” went out with a bang in April, as the three original hosts reunited with stars Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and others.

But, unlike Simon Cowell’s edge, it may not be gone for good.

Variety reported exclusively on Thursday that NBC has been pitched a revival of the popular series by the former “Idol” producers at FremantleMedia. There’s no word on whether longtime host Ryan Seacrest would be involved.

All of that might be bad news for “The Voice” fans. The trade outlet reports that, in order to fit a revamped “Idol” into the schedule, it might take the other show down to one season per year, from two.

It’d also push the network’s number of reality talent-based competitions to four. In addition to “The Voice,” NBC broadcasts “America’s Got Talent” (created by Cowell and fellow “Idol” alum Ken Warwick) and it just ordered a dance competition starring judge Jennifer Lopez titled “World of Dance.”
