These days, it seems every movie and TV show we grew up watching is getting the remake or revival treatment (see: “Ghostbusters,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Will & Grace”). But there’s one sitcom that’s yet to make a comeback ― whether we like it or not ― and that’s “Friends.”
According to Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay on the ‘90s show, there doesn’t seem to be a plan in place to get new episodes of “Friends” on the air.
During an appearance on the “Today” show Tuesday morning, host Savannah Guthrie asked the actress, “Could you ever get the group together?” (For the record, the cast, minus Matthew Perry, did get together last year for a special TV tribute to James Burrows, but that doesn’t really count.)
“Me, personally? No,” Kudrow joked, before admitting the group has “convened, privately, for dinner and it was great.”
The actress then put the “Friends” reunion into perspective, telling Guthrie, “If we don’t tell you one is coming and then it doesn’t happen, you have no reason to be disappointed. I’m managing expectations.”
“I don’t see it happening. It would be fun, but what would it be about? Think about it,” Kudrow continued. “The thing we liked best about the show was that they were 20-somethings, they were their own family. Now, they all have families, so what are we going to watch?”
On the bright side ― if they never revive it, they can’t ruin something that’s beloved by so many people.
