UPDATE: “The Tonight Show” got back ... to us.
On what really happened during the “Baby Got Back” flub, Chris Tartaro, “Tonight Show” remote director and the Ragtime Gal on Fallon’s left, told The Huffington Post, “The audience was really energetic and amazing and it had us all pretty pumped up from the beginning. Jimmy and I both flubbed the rhythm of that line and it was just our genuine response to making a mistake at the same time.”
EARLIER: We like big bloopers and we cannot lie.
And that’s what we got during Jimmy Fallon and his Ragtime Gals’ barbershop quartet version of “Baby Got Back.” Fallon’s group has seamlessly taken on “Talk Dirty” with the help of Kevin Spacey and “Roxanne” with Sting, but someone apparently flubbed a line in the performance on Tuesday.
After that, Fallon burst into a fit of laughter. “The Tonight Show” host struggled to keep it together through the rest of the song and eventually cracked up again at the end.
“Tonight Show” writer Mike DiCenzo tells HuffPost over email that he’s not sure exactly what happened, speculating that someone missed a word. But DiCenzo says, “That was a totally genuine moment.”
Whatever the reason, we’re hooked and we can’t stop staring.
”The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
