Melissa Etheridge Doesn't Want To Be Judged For Smoking Pot With Her Kids

Grammy winner Melissa Etheridge seems to believe it’s high time she defended her choice to sometimes smoke pot with her kids.

The “Come To My Window” singer caused a stir recently when she said she lit up with her 18-year-old son Beckett and 20-year-old daughter Bailey.

“People will judge my mothering or whatever,” the 55-year-old performer said Wednesday on “Access Hollywood.” “My kids grew up in Southern California. It’s not a crazy thing. It was a decision. It’s not something I do a lot, at all, hardly.”

“It was an experience that was kind of family and sacred,” she added. Being judged “breaks my heart a little bit.”

Toking together “brings you closer,” she told Yahoo’s “Weed & The American Family” earlier this week.

“I’d much rather have a smoke with my grown kids than a drink,” she said.

Etheridge reportedly has been smoking recreationally since she was 21 and used marijuana during treatment after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004.

Nearly half of parents who use marijuana have done so in front of their “usually adult” children or smoked with them, according to a Yahoo/Marist poll.
