Seth Meyers: 'Republicans Are Lying Through Their Teeth' About Health Care Bill

"Everything that Paul Ryan claimed to hate about the Obamacare process in 2009, he’s doing now."

Seth Meyers ripped House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Thursday night for demonstrating an astonishing amount of hypocrisy over the health care debate.

Meyers played clips of Ryan railing against Democrats in 2009 when Congress sought to pass the Affordable Care Act, criticizing the other side for “muscling through” a bill that “we haven’t read” and “don’t know how much [it’ll] cost.”

House Republicans celebrated passing the Obamacare repeal bill on Thursday, even though multiple representatives admitted that they had not read the entire bill, and the House voted before the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its report evaluating the financial ramifications of it.

“Everything that Paul Ryan claimed to hate about the Obamacare process in 2009, he’s doing now,” Meyers said. “Republicans are lying through their teeth about the impacts of the bill on premiums and pre-existing conditions and hoping no one will catch them because there’s no CBO score. And until last night, there was no text.”

He added, “Americans are being conned, and there will be consequences for people doing the conning.”
