Adam Schiff: Donald Trump Is Dimming Beacon Of Hope For Rest Of World

"It’s a great tragedy all over the world if we lose that leadership."

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) says President Donald Trump is having a negative effect worldwide.

On Friday’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee claimed Trump is “dimming the beacon of hope for the rest of the world.”

People who’d suffered injustice at the hands of authoritarian regimes often “look to the United States to speak for them,” Schiff said. But after Politico referenced German chancellor Angela Merkel as now being the “leader of the free world,” he feared it may soon no longer be the case ― adding it would be “a grave tragedy” if America lost that leadership.

Schiff also criticized Trump for insinuating via Twitter that he’d taped his meetings with fired FBI Director James Comey.

“The president should immediately provide any such recordings to Congress or admit, once again, to have made a deliberately misleading and in this case threatening statement,” he said.
