Did you know that Sunday, April 24 was the one-year anniversary of the Apple Watch? Neither did we. But after a year dominating the smartwatch category, the brilliant team of engineers and designers at Apple are reportedly doing what they do best: figuring out how to make good products even better.

Buried deep in the belly of a Wall Street Journal piece about the Apple Watch's performance is the unconfirmed rumor that new versions of the device will include "cell-network connectivity and a faster processor." In other words, future generations of the Apple Watch may be able to connect directly to your mobile service provider without having to tether to an iPhone. While Apple won't confirm whether it's working on this functionality, it would be a smart move for them to implement it. Not only would it improve the Watch's performance, it would also make selling Watches to people who insist on using Android products a whole lot easier.

Apple is known for playing its cards pretty close to the chest. So if network connectivity is coming to the Watch, we won't know about it until the company's CEO Tim Cook says so himself. And that might happen soon: Cook's next big on-stage moment is Apple's World Wide Developer Conference, slated for June 13-17.
