The World's Biggest Burgers originally published on the Menuism Burger Blog.

Mr. Lew is a high school teacher from Montreal, Quebec. In 2009, after trying Montreal's supposed best burger, he decided to see what else was out there. So, every week, a new burger was added to the Great Burger Search. Since then, Mr. Lew has tried more than 100 burgers in cities across Canada, and hopes to one day expand to the rest of North America. Since Mr. Lew is part Chinese, the search isn't limited only to great burgers, but to other types of cuisine that makes Montreal one of the greatest culinary cities in the world.

Weighing in at 78.5 pounds, Big Bob's Texas Belt Buster was American Bob Schindler's contribution to the Thailand burger scene in 2007. The burger itself contains two heads of lettuce, 15 tomatoes, four whole onions, 35 slices of cheese, 1 cup of ketchup, 1 cup of mustard, four pickles, and four jalapeños. Priced at $400, this burger eclipsed the previous record by over 25 pounds and fired the first international salvo in the race to create bigger burgers.

You don't need to ask any questions as to why we're the fattest nation on this planet. Americans equate bigger is better when it comes to food and they especially still have the notion that meat equals getting your dollar's worth.

I'm far from a vegetarian, but I have a small stomach that can only hold about l2 ounces, which is why I never go to all-you-can-eat buffets (besides, all their foods are full of fat).

It is embarrassing to me that these places exist; it is embarrassing to me that an actual human being (male, overwhelmingly) will try to eat this just to say "I did it, damnit!".

As an ex surgeon, I've seen stomachs so distended by food I'm surprised they didn't burst. As to sustainability, any food grower will tell you that it costs the most growing cattle vs., say, potatoes.

I can understand this 'need' for meat since the poor never got to eat any throughout the centuries, but it's gotta stop now or we will be needing even more cardiac surgeons.

You did see that #1, #2, #4, and #9 weren't even in America, correct?

Yes, of course I noticed that. And you know why? Because of American tourists. What does that tell you about how we act overseas? Shameful.

If it's not edible, it shouldn't count.

I bet It comes with DIET SODA i guess (all you can drink)

I tell people not to laugh at the "ordering a diet soda with a big meal" thing. Those extra large cups at fast food restaurants if filled with soda made with sugar could have enough calories to equal consuming an extra sandwich (400-500). I've gotten used to the taste of diet soda, so I prefer to put my extra calories into the sandwich.

Seriously, Huff Po?! Really?! This is news? This is a plain embarrassment, with all of the starvation in the world, with the obesity epidemic in the US, to glorify such disgusting gluttony...Huff Po, you can do better than this!

Oh,I so agree. The blood on the bun of Kooky Knucks did a real job for me. I don't think I'll be eating meat anytime soon!

Woo! Those giant burgers, I love burgers but not sure if I could eat that huge thing.
07:34 PM on 05/15/2012
These burgers are more than likely for several people.......something like the six foot hero sandwiches at parties. I think the over sized buns are primarily for presentation.....but the burger and veggies are served up on different plates....and so are the french fries.
