We had a surprise visitor to our office on Tuesday: Investigator John F. Bilyeu of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. It seems there's some concern circulating over Bristol Palin's much-publicized visit to Rum Runners in Anchorage last week.

The problem? Rum Runners is a bar. Bristol's 19. Alaska's drinking age is 21.

Investigator Bilyeu was looking for our raw video footage from the event. We politely declined to give it to him. We're not in the habit of handing over notes, photos, video or other materials produced in the process of newsgathering to any government official. In fact, like many news organizations, we've got a policy against it.

Besides, we told him: What you see on our website is pretty much what you get, at least in this case. As we explained in the text that accompanied the video, our intern wasn't allowed to get close enough to Bristol to get any images of her. Believe us, if we had footage of Bristol Palin hanging out in a bar, we would have put it on our website and you'd be free to link and embed to your heart's content.
