Papillon for President

That's what we're talking about here: The potential leader of the free world lived in a fucking hole for over five years.

What were you doing five years ago today? It would be February 2003. Think about it. Hard to remember, right? But you know you were doing something around people or maybe with family. Maybe something at work. Maybe thinking about dieting or beginning that exercise program. Valentine's Day was coming up. Super Bowl was just played. Pitchers and catchers were about to report.

Okay? Now, play a game with me. Think back over those five years and try to remember everything since then. Every vacation. Every job. Every relationship. Happy hours. Jokes you laughed at. Television. Children. Movies. Holidays. I know it's hard. There's a lot of life in five years. A lot of good times. A lot of growth and human interaction and life reaffirming events.

Now, think how it might affect you if you spent those five solid years locked up in some foreign country's rat infested shit hole in solitary confinement when you weren't being beaten or watched. Think about the massive boredom. Time slowing down until it practically stops. Think about the mind games you might play. The invisible friends you might create. The regimentation and redundancy of being a dehumanized thing in some small, cold cell. Kind of sucks shit, doesn't it?

Five long, hard insane years. 1850 or so endless cycles of day and night and day and night and day and night. That might change a man.

Now, think about your captors. Those motherfuckers who beat and torture you or your mates. Those pricks who try to break you of body and soul. You do what it takes to survive. You'll be whatever they want you to be in the moment. You'll play the game.
But, all the while you'll pray. You'll pray to somebody--anybody for deliverance. You divorce yourself from your body. From the humiliation and degradation.

Now imagine you know that guy--the one that was locked up for all that time. You love that guy. You respect that guy. You admire that guy. He's welcome over for dinner any time.

Now, ask yourself another question: What would you think if he asked for your checkbook? Or another: How would you feel if he wanted your credit cards? One more: Would you ever let him borrow your gun?

That's what we're talking about here: The potential leader of the free world lived in a fucking hole for over five years. I'm not saying I don't respect the man. I'm not saying he's not a great American. But, John McCain lived in a motherfucking hole for five and a half years! Anyway, it's just an observation. An idle thought. John McCain probably had plenty of idle thoughts because he lived in a motherfucking hole for five and a half years!
