New Book Chronicles Official Government UFO Investigations (VIDEO)

Posted: 09/05/2012 11:21 am

Many do not realize that for several decades the United States took UFO reports very seriously. In fact, it was the Air Force that coined the term UFO in the first place. Furthermore, there are several governments around the world who still take UFO reports very seriously and continue to investigate them in an official capacity. All of these government-sponsored UFO investigations have been documented like never before in the new book UFOs and Government: A Historical Inquiry.

The cover of the book says it is a history of government UFO investigations "from the perspectives of the governments themselves." That is because the authors have undergone years of painstaking research, unearthing hundreds of official government documents from government and university archives chronicling the manner in which government agencies went about tackling the UFO phenomenon and why they even bothered.

2012-09-05-UFOsandGovernment.jpgThe book begins during World War II when many Allied pilots in the European campaign reported witnessing balls of light following their aircraft and eventually flying off at great speeds. They were dubbed "Foo Fighters." After the war the military inquired of the Germans and Russians as to what these Foo Fighters were. Their response was that they had also witnessed the mysterious balls of light, and had assumed them to be secret weapons of the United States. Thus began over two decades of investigation as to what these unidentified flying objects were and whether or not they posed a threat.

Reports of UFOs of varying shapes and sizes increased steadily into the 50s. After sightings over Washington, D.C., President Truman tasked the CIA to look into the matter. They convened the Robertson Panel, which determined that the phenomenon did not pose a direct threat; however, they did worry that it could pose a psychological threat that could be exploited by the Russians.

Over half of the humongous 600 page, 8 1/2 by 11" book reviews hundreds of files demonstrating the serious nature in which every branch of the United States military, the CIA and the FBI took into investigating the flood of UFO reports coming in from the public, the military and even law enforcement personnel.

Eventually, due to the conclusions of an independent panel of investigators in 1969 with the University of Colorado, commissioned by the Air Force, official UFO investigations in the United States ended. The panel concluded that there was no scientific benefit to the study of UFOs. However, the authors dedicate a chapter to UFO investigation that took place post-1969, demonstrating that there have been a number of important sightings that the Air Force could not ignore.

One of these incredible events took place over two days at Loring Air Force base in Maine in October 1975. The first day's event was in the evening when security police saw a craft with red blinking lights fly in and then began circling the base. It came within 300 yards of a nuclear storage area and was tracked on radar before disappearing. It was thought at the time that it could have been a wayward helicopter. However, it apparently returned the next night. This time the crew of a B-52 bomber reported seeing a large football shaped object the length of four cars.

Although the United States ended its official investigations, other countries have continued to research the issue. News of the British Ministry of Defence's official UFO Desk closing has made headlines recently. However, the best example of a strong scientific effort has been France's GEIPAN, an organization that works with the National Center of Space Sciences (CNES), the French version of NASA. They post their findings on their website. A couple of their landmark cases include alleged UFO landings in which they felt the evidence supported witness testimony. In one of these cases laboratories found strange effects to the chlorophyll in plants removed from a circular depression where the alleged UFO had reportedly landed. They theorized the effect was a result of an electromagnetic field.

I asked co-author Robert Powell why he felt this book is important. He told me:

Several of the authors, I would say, have spent 30 to 40 years of their life thoroughly investigating this phenomenon. These aren't people who are jumping to conclusions. We don't talk about aliens; we don't talk about necessarily what's the cause. We talk about how the government reacted to the phenomenon, and it's a real reaction. It's a serious reaction, and this reaction probably still goes on today, but not in an open forum as it used to do.

This book is a hallmark piece of work that people curious about the UFO phenomenon, whether they be skeptics or convinced that UFOs pose a real mystery, need to read. It documents the government's involvement in UFO research in a way that has never been done before.

I'm a non-"believer" (but not an anti-"believer") (I'm using those scare quotes because I don't know quite the correct way of referring to it -- "percipient/percipiency", after Vallee?) and I'm astounded that the ET-UFO phenomenon persists in roughly the same form as it has since it was first noticed before WW2. By this time, we should either have had confirmation of its non-human provenance, or a self-evident explanation of why the ET-UFO explanation is incorrect.

It would be good to know what's going on, but the idea that there's a big cover up being conducted out of fear of mass panic no longer holds water; UFO and Alien lore is so much a part of pop culture now that disclosure would be an afterthought, behind the latest revelations about Rob-n-Kristen, Britney, LiLo, and Miley.

I'm embarrassed that I even know what those names mean. On the other hand, participating in a thread about aliens is no big deal. Paging Dr. Tsoukalos! Paging Dr. Tsoukalos!

Well put, Dogmudgeon. It will take a concerted research effort to understand the phenomenon: a concerted effort that has yet to be undertaken. But with the current stigma associated with UFOs, a scientific evaluation of the UFO phenomenon may never be undertaken.

I think UFO's are really man made top secret government projects. They may have got the technology rom aliens or they are just using the alien idea to cover it up. I've also heard they are from another dimension. I would love to know the truth.

Before the "foo gighters" of WWII fame there were a number of important sightings of what we came to call UFOs.

For example, in outhern Missouri, Louisiana and California in the arly 1940s before Donovan's CIA was chartered, Army-Air C orp ntelligence had been working on what their scientists called electro-magnetic gravity lazers and propulsion, but without adequate understanding or safeguards.

When they were testing those lazers to disrupt Soviet bomber navigation, during a thunderstorm in early July, we caused two navigational errors that brought down two UFOs in various degrees of destruction, killing and wounding what we came to call EBE ("Extraterrestrial Biological Entities until we learned that they are not totally "Extra-Terrestrial"by examining the wounded and captured crews from UFOs crashed near Roswell and White Sands where the captive was taken to see if it could "phone home"

A cadre of religious and political leaders descended on Roswell to give their advice from every perspective. By the yime President Truman's Oval Office was invaded by beings beaming down during the "Washington Flap" in early July, 1952, we had a pretty good idea what the EBEs are.

I have personally witnessed a UFO in 1970 very close up. The government is covering it up, they know somethings but are not telling.
It is impossible to see UFO's unless they want you to see them, because they can control their visibility at will with precision. Here is what happened:
Driving down an interstate highway one night in Michigan, I saw unusual lights approaching from the distance, and they were not airplane lights, and the movement was erratic and quick. I pulled off to the shoulder for a better look, and it seemed to come directly at us, and hovered over us, just to the side so that they could watch us through the windows. We could see human shaped figures silhouetted against the light through the UFO windows. There was no noise at all, and a flashing color plasma seemed to circulate around the rim of the saucer.
The wierd thing was that we were the only ones who could see it. I was amazed at the sight, and tried to stop traffic and pointed up to it at the other drivers going by, but they shook their heads wondering what we were pointing at. It was as huge as a football stadium, all lit up, and floating just overhead. No one could see it except for me and those in my car with me. They control who can see them!

Me too. I was down in Myrtle Beach last feb 2011, sitting oceanside on a deck about 2 in the morning. It was drizzling and the clouds were thick and hanging just over the ocean. I noticed a pinpoint sized red light that was so bright I could see it through the clouds. It came from up above out over the ocean towards me (the coast) and stopped 250-500 ft? up and just offshore. It went from pinpoint size to the size of a brake light at 100 yards in a split second and stopped on a dime. It dispeared as quickly as it came about 5 seconds later, it just faded out quickly About 30 seconds later another one did the same thing and stopped just to the left of where the first one stopped. It also disapeared about 5 seconds later. Then a third one appeared about a mile down the beach to my left. It did the same thing as the first two. Even weirder besides the fact that I could see them through the thick clouds was a glittering whitish light like a 4th of july sparkler that seemed to be falling out of the bottom of the 2nd red light.

cntd.

I guess if I had to describe them in a sentence, they looked like brake lights in thick fog from 100 yards away complete with the soft aura or edges around them probably from the clouds filtering the light. I remember thinking that these things are glowing red because they came in so fast and they faded out because they cooled down after they stopped. Go ahead and ridicule away I dont care because I know that im not alone. And no I havent seen anything like that since then or before.

USA FIRST 1: One of the first collateral psychodelic effects of electromagnetic/ gravity lazers our Air Corp men discovered was how those lazers created percepyual/physical reactions such as making viagra and cialis irrelevant. Even from ancient religious history it was clear that people saw what we would call "changelings".

Study the apocryphal book about the youth of Mary where the Chief Priest was said to have forgotten to ring the bell when he was present, leaving him to see the angel from the Holy of Holies, which Zacharia described as monstrousand about the color and height of an ass. Zacharia had the speech scared out og him! So the EBEs can affect our brains however they want!

These kinds of publications are important to UFology. Dilligent research is the path to truth in a world where hard imperical evidence is hard to come by. I will definitely be getting a copy.

It is nice to see such publications coming forth which are a result of serious research. I hope that someday it will be common knowledge that we can coexist and communicate with other being whose origin might be that of another star system or interdimensional**.

If you are wondering what real Disclosure looks like and want to know exactly which countries have disclosed their UFO files, here is a comprehensive up to date list.

What???? This can't be true. It would mean that the U.S. Government has disclosed their UFO material just as I and a few others have been saying for years. What are Bassett, Dolan, Greer, and a host of conspiracy theorists going to do? I'll bet they say the USG is hiding the good stuff.

What kind of disclosure are you referring too, because they certainly haven't disclosed the nature of UFOs and Extra Terrestrials.

Thank you a million times for this (and all your other) article(s)!!! It's great to see someone writing about this topic for a main stream audience! yes jumping to conclusions is not a great idea. but neither is shying away from the UFO topic. what you're doing is great! you give us the information. we can decide whether or not were willing to open our minds to the possibility of an intelligent extra terrestrial presence here on earth ~
08:20 AM on 09/06/2012
I agree it's great to see intelligent and judicious people looking into this real phenomenon. But I do think it is somewhat prejudicial to term the phenomenon to be intelligent and extraterrestrial, even though it is very tempting to do so. It is clear that occasionally UFO objects appear to behave intelligently and react to humans, but this does not rule out a basis for such observations that arise from more autonomic processes that can and do occur in physics, inorganic chemistry and electromagnetism. The fact that UFO have been noted for centuries and that such incidents number at least in the tens of thousands indicates to me that the phenomenon is quite terrestrial and indigenous to Earth. All that said, I do not rule out that the phenomenon is both conscious and ubiquitous throughout the universe. We should and will understand UFOs, consciousness and the operations and functioning of the universe. But that day is not quite yet here and now.

Respectfully submitted,
Steve

thanks for your comment. I do not want to label the entire UFO phenomenon intelligent. obviously not all UFO's are the same thing. they're all simply unidentified. a lot of them might be nothing more than natural phenomenon.

I'm not asking you to believe that UFO's are all intelligent. Not at all...

I'm asking you whether or not you're willing to accept that it's possible (just possible) that some UFO's on earth represent extra terrestrial intelligence?

there's a big difference between accepting truth and accepting possibility.

is it possible that the world will end tomorrow? yes. is it true? well we don't know. we will have to wait and see.

but we cannot learn new truths unless we're willing to accept new possibilities first... opening our minds to new (previously unimagined) possibilities, is the way to continue discovering new previously unknown truths.
