Giada, Guy, Emeril and More Take on Food TV

Every year The New York City Wine and Food Festival is an essential event for anyone who loves food. And this year was bigger than ever, starting off with a celebration of Food Network's 20th year.

We caught up with some of food's biggest stars on the red carpet to talk about the festival, the anniversary and to get their take -- the good, the bad and the ugly -- on how food television has changed over the years.

Giada De Laurentiis says it's now an inescapable phenomenon, noting: "Over the years I would say that there is not one single person that does not know what Food Network is."

A lot of chefs commented on how the medium has evolved over the years. Guy Fieri said that "Everything has changed -- presentation styles, visual styles, the ethnicities of food". Chefs like Bobby Flay, Robert Irvine and Marc Murphy and restaurateurs like Danny Meyer think the growth of food television has been a positive shift because it raises awareness.

But a few others are wary of where it could go. Aaron Sanchez of Chopped conceded that there's. "A lot more entertainment and reality." Ted Allen went further by noting that, "One thing that sometimes concerns me about the celebrity chef phenomenon is that a lot of young people are going to culinary school, getting expensive degrees thinking that they're going to immediately land a show -- you have to go into this industry because you love the craft."
