It would be great if just one person commenting actually had a clue about what they are talking about.
NO, these tapes are not just being released as part of some governmental-invasion-of-privacy thing. They are part of the evidence in the Pellicano trial - which is a public proceding. For all the commenters who seem to have zero clue about the substance of the Pellicano trial and why it is of some public interest, maybe you should look into it. Vanity Fair did a pretty extensive piece on it a couple of months ago and it concerns a lot of dirty business in Hollywood. At stake is Pellicano's use of illegal wiretapping and other misdeeds, etc. The question isn't whether Chris Rock was illegally tapped. It is whether guys such as Chris Rock hired Pellicano to illegally tap for them and are in fact subverting other people's rights. As Chris clearly hired Pellicano and Pellicano was known to have mob ties, it's clear he hired one dirty guy and most likely had awareness of what Pellicano was about and his tactics might be. Rock had a dirty secret and he hired a dirty guy to help clean it up. CR is no victim.
And for those who are not aware, entertainment is the U.S.'s #2 biggest export after airplanes so Hollywood business can be very important.
I agree with you. It is in the public's interest as part of a public trial. Pellicano is not a lawyer. He has no privilege to assert on Chris Rock's behalf. NoComment9 I've been looking for this Vanity Fair piece. Wikipedia gave me the short and dirty version. [Alot of the time I ignore any actor/reality tv show star/musician 'news'. I am not surprised I missed this.]
The reason I am interested is because I heard somewhere that the Clintons used his services in the "bimbo eruptions" in the 1992 campaign. I didn't appreciate them attacking the woman's character when she stood up and said whatever she had to say about Bill Clinton. After the Bush years, I had to reassess whether I was right to just excuse Clinton for every venal sin in which he engaged. On one hand I like Bill's fight but I did not like his patriarchal use of power to have sex with women. If Pellicano's pattern of defaming women speaks to tactics, then his approach might shed some light on how far Hillary is willing to go to win the WH during this primary.
I can honestly say this Chris Rock story made me feel ill and appealed to my prurient interest all at the same time. It is like watching a train wreck and looking for human carnage. I generally think that politicians have a right to a zone of privacy. I will extend that to celebrities' peccadilloes. I don't want to imagine CR naked, experiencing a premature withdrawal with or without a condom, or having a used tissue assisting her for subsequent paternity claims. It reminds me of Jesse Jackson. It also makes me relive the case against R. Kelly and that young girl.
The hard thing for us to face or to handle (whether it is an 2006 case or whether it is a NY federal prosecution prostitution case) is when do we NEED to know and when do we need to IGNORE the infidelity, the deception, and some of the sexual predilections of our politics and our celebrity culture.
I don't think it is good when two people have some sort of consensual sex, the woman bears all the labels, and suffers the scarlet letter. Surely, we've come far enough in our personal enlightenment to accept that sex between two consenting adults (paid or otherwise) is the responsibility of both.
Even when I don't want to know CR's personal details and while I considered myself a fan, I feel extraordinarily uncomfortable thinking that he had to "blacken" the woman's character so he didn't have to deal with the consequences of his actions. The next time he has a comedy show about marital infidelity and how we need to forgive someone he likes (i.e. his defense of Bill Clinton), I won't be laughing.
Surely he can man up for getting off.
So....this is news? Why? Who cares? Don't you have anything better to scribble about?
Thanks!!! You are soooo right. WHO CARES????
Chris I feel for you man. I have never cheated on my wife but,if I was presented with as much ass as you get I don't know I would be able to resist. I would just tell my wife or ask her to join in. Try that next time, then you would have a witness:) This changes nothing, just tell jokes about yourself and we will all buy it up. " To the windows, to the walls!!! "
This story is disgusting and should be removed from this site, as it takes away from the credibility of the site. The person who made the decision to include it should be reprimanded and monitored on future decision making.
I agree. Doesn't Huff Post have any standards? I like to separate my porn from my politics.
ERRRRGH! Too much information here! Sorry if I'm a little annoyed by this, but if Chris Rock were not a celebrity, I really doubt he'd have to go through ANY of this!
BTW, he's kinda cute... but I digress.
"Don't tase me, hunny!"
Before even getting into the story, why is this not under court seal, and why is the HuffPost stooping to disclose it? So Chris Rock was estranged from his wife and had a one night stand (just going by what is presented here). Is that cause to spread this "scoop" and a private conversation between him and his lawyer? If you want to challenge the Drudge Report, start by raising the level of your reporting and not becoming a tabloid, please!
At first I thought this was a put-on article. Pellicano is being prosecuted for wiretapping--an invasion of privacy. Posting a transcript and the tape of the wiretapped conversation seems almost like being an accessory after the fact.
wow creepy. one good thing about the trial its like they're rolling out all the great comics from the carolines and the store in the 80's. shandling killed at the trial yesterday.

I don't either, but invasion of privacy in the extreme is a sign of the times. Luckily for Chris Rock, he' s very likable & has the gift of acerbic humor to further expose the media's disgusting fetish for embarrassing people.
Instead of reporting on the trial you've now delved into reporting on Chris Rock.
How about sticking to the trial.
I don't care about someones private life.
Oh come on now, you read it still, didnt you? :)
I love Chris Rock. Gonna see him perform tomorrow. Wonder if he'll mention this...I bet he does.
I'll bet he DOESN'T!
That was definitely Chris Rock. Hilarious! This tramp was obviously out to make some money, when the false pregnancy thing didn"t work she went with the rape gimmick.
Have you ever seen Chris Rock! My 6 year old niece could kick his ass. Don"t believe for one second he is capable of raping a full grown, big breasted woman.
so, he's screwing someone who isn't his wife, messing with the rubber and acting like a complete
dipshit and she's a tramp? How is it that married men can act like hookers and the woman gets the blame? He should have kept it in his damned pants if he's so damned worried about his career. If I was his wife I'd hit him in the balls with a hammer. The stupid tramp. He's a tramp too my friend.
