One day after Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton professed an abiding affection for guns and hunting, her love of firearms came under attack from another sometime hunter in Washington.
Appearing on NBC's Meet the Press, Vice President Dick Cheney said that a hunting contest between him and the New York senator was "the only way" to determine whether Sen. Clinton's tales of her gun prowess were for real.
"To be frank, Hillary Clinton's stories about her adventures with guns don't exactly pass the smell test," the vice president told host Tim Russert. "If she really wants to show that she knows how to handle a rifle, there's an easy way to do that: meet me in the woods."
While some in the Clinton campaign expressed concern about their candidate accepting Mr. Cheney's challenge, the idea of a hunting contest got the ringing endorsement of one member of her inner circle, former president Bill Clinton.
"Dick Cheney and Hillary in the woods with guns?" President Clinton said at a campaign stop in Pittsburgh. "Boy, I like the sound of that."
But shortly after the vice president issued his challenge, Sen. Clinton seemed to back off from her earlier claims of hunting experience, saying that she had "misspoke" about her hunting exploits as a child.
"I fired a gun once, but I didn't like it, and I didn't recoil," she said.

Well, it's all just a great bunch of fun. However, it does point out the need to accurately label content as satire as has been noted here on HuffPo repeatedly in the past.
While it's funny in a way to have a newspaper post this piece as legitimate news, it doesn't just undermine the credibility of the newspaper, it also undermines the credibility of this site for not having accurately described the content.
Perhaps it's time for HuffPo to revisit the policy on items like this.
Funny article, though, Andy!

To those who feel bad about being fooled by this story, don't! It was picked up today by the BOSTON HERALD as a real news story:

ROTFL! I always get such a kick out of seeing folks take your stories seriously, but this is too much!
Remember, when Hillary made fun of Obama's bowling? She challenged him and said she would even spot him two frames. When she picked up the ball she had no clue what to do with it,
she released it and it went straight into the gutter. No one, but no one picked up on that - why is
that? It was funny though with her big mouth.
I noticed this too, i think the scheduled coverage is pro-hillary until after the PA primary, then McCain will make a gaffe, then back to Obama. I know it's hard to keep up but the advertisers demand a certain predictability.
Hilary- if you off Cheney you'll bbe the surefire Dem nominee, all hands down.
Doesn't sound like you know much about guns.
Okay, I already knew this wasn't real news, but I was extremely disappointed to find out it wasn't comedy, either. Andy's kind of like the Funyuns of satirical news: stale, puffed-up junk food that vaguely reminds me of a real Onion.
Hey, Andy, when people tell you you're a funny man, I don't think they mean "ha-ha" funny. I think they mean it in a "he mostly kept to himself" kind of way.
I dunno, maybe it's a hiding your light under a bushel thing, without the bushel.
Anyway, good luck and keep trying, and maybe someday you'll get to play the MAIN stage at SunGard.

I love your posts, Andy, and I don't laugh that easily anymore.
I have a better challage. Both Hillary and Cheney should grab thier M-16's, thenthe both of them and myself could go to Iraq and find out who really can handle a fire arm under the same conditions our soldiers are under. The last time I checked, ducks do not pack weapons or fire back at the hunter. So come on lets all three go to Iraq and defend this country with your shooting skills.
I've already copyrighted and trademarked "cheney-democrat" as it pertains to Hillbillarys style of slash and burn politics. Cosmetic surgeons will be busy as the drunken Clinton thinks everyones a duck.

The senator opted instead to challenge Karen Hughes to a cahrity arm-wrestling contest, with all the proceeds going to Halliburto n."Hey, at least there won't be bullets," chuckled Clinton. Singer Elton John said, "Blimey..i t's all too butch for me. Why can't she just knit socks?"
No really, this actually happened! I saw it on eeeeeeuuuuuutube.

IT"S SATIRE!
Cheney didn't call-out Hillary. She didn't say the "recoil" line. These are the jokes, people.
We know and are enjoying every satirical second.
THIS IS TOO FUNNY!
The following is NOT satire! Hillary's favorite word, which apparently is like a magic wand that erases all of the negative meanings from her lips is "MISSPOKE!"
But shortly after the vice president issued his challenge, Sen. Clinton seemed to back off from her earlier claims of hunting experience, saying that she had "misspoke" about her hunting exploits as a child. "I fired a gun once, but I didn't like it, and I didn't recoil," she said.
Hillary is a political whore who will do or say ANYTHING to get elected.
Mind you, I voted for Bill Clinton twice, Gore and Kerry once, and most recently, yes I registered Republican for the first time in my life, for Ron Paul. However, I have registered Democrat for the General Election and will be voting for Obama, because anyone who has any living cells in their brain will realize that Obama will beat Hillary in the Primary.
If Hillary would have voted to NOT fund the war, after voting for the war, that would have been enough for me. However, after listening to her say that she did not have enough information to make a decision about the war, never mind the fact that she did not read the NIE and continues to say that she was hoodwinked just makes me FNG sick.
AnyBODY BUTT Hillary!!!!
I
It was a JOKE!
Andy, I'm afraid that you're going to have to label your posts "Humor" or "Satire". It looks like some people took your story at face value.
Specifically, at "shoot-a-l awyer-in-t he-face" value. :)
