Judge Calls Balloon Dad Flight Risk

FORT COLLINS (The Borowitz Report) - A Colorado judge today sentenced Richard and Mayumi Heene, parents of the so-called "Balloon Boy," to jail, calling the couple a flight risk.

The Heenes' lawyers had hoped for leniency by entering a new version of the insanity plea, "guilty by reason of reality television."

Explaining his motives behind the balloon hoax in open court, Mr. Heene haltingly told the judge, "I did it... for the show."

Seemingly unmoved, Larimer County Court Judge Stephen Schapanski sentenced the Heenes to jail, pointing out that when sheriff's deputies came to the couple's home to arrest them they found them hiding in the attic in a box. More here.
