So, former vice presidential candidate and girl-wonder Sarah Barracuda Palin writes a 413-page memoir, Going Rogue, (due out Tuesday) and sits with mega-media-mogul Oprah Winfrey to dish about the big bad partisan press that treated her unfairly during the 2008 campaign. She took extra special jabs at CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric--who she accuses of being biased, condescending and "badgering"--and ABC newsman Charles Gibson, who she said appeared bored, patronizing and judgemental as he "peered skeptically" at her from his authoritarian nose-dangling reading glasses.
I have to say, I agree with Palin. In fact, I am calling for CBS to fire Katie Couric for her outrageous inappropriate, unprofessional and offensive behavior. Let me remind you of Couric's crime: During the interview, Couric asked MILFY to explain why Alaska's proximity to Russia translates to having foreign policy experience. And then, Couric had the uber-audacity to ask the woman who wanted to be next in line to the Oval Office what newspapers and magazines she reads regularly, and an uncomfortable Palin replied: "Um, all of them, any of them."
I'm sorry, but what part of "seeing Russia from my window" does Couric not get? This is exactly the kind of foreign policy vision America needs. And, to ask Palin what she reads? How dare Couric throw Palin such a hardball question like that, one that truly smacks of some serious liberal-fueled badgering? This is a woman who lobbied to literally be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Leader of the free world. Show some respect, Katie, and ask her to explain the complicated cultural and religious differences between Iraq's Shia, Sunni and Kurdish populations as relating to a solution to the war. Ask her to give an overview of the Arab-Israeli conflict and what her strategy would be for bringing about a lasting peace in that region. Ask her to explain the role played by the insurance, pharmaceutical and medical industries in America's health-care problem. Ask her to explain how credit default swaps, derivatives and other risky financial instruments nearly brought Wall Street to its knees. Now these would be softballs; slam-dunks Palin could've answered with her purdy lil eyes closed, thus demonstrating her overall intelligence and political savvy. But instead, Couric opted for the low road and spilt her vitriol in the form of the brutally difficult what she reads question.
And Gibson? She should've smacked those obnoxious glasses right off of Gippetto's face. Sure, Gibson tried to mask his intense hatred for Palin by seeming to act in the same near-catatonic, monotone manner that he does during every single other interview he's ever given, but we could see right through that charade. He can't stand Palin, and it showed...or didn't...but we knew it was there...sort of...I think...we just couldn't see it, that's all. Doesn't mean it wasn't there. Kind of like WMD.
Call me crazy, but I deem Couric's behavior, and the harsh treatment by Gibson, an egregious abuse of the public's trust and an affront to professional journalists everywhere. Fire them both!
Arianna Huffington: Sunday Roundup
Prepare for the latest Palin media onslaught. An hour with Oprah, a multi-parter with Barbara, and appearances all across the country. An initial read shows Going Rogue doesn't reveal much. No surprise there. This isn't about the book, it's about the book tour -- which includes a politically convenient stop in Iowa -- and the money. Besides, it's not like there's much we haven't already learned about Palin since she burst onto the national scene. We even know when her water broke during her last pregnancy. Talk about overexposed. In the end, I expect this will be one of the most mocked books of the year -- and one of the biggest bestsellers. Palin fans will find much to love, but I doubt a single doubter will be converted. It's a 400 page Rorschach test. With no index.

LOL
It's not that she's paranoid, it's just that everybody is out to get her!
Hey Clark Kent, if Lois Lane wanted you to swoop down and save her she would. She's a grown woman that's quite capable of handling herself and whatever blunders she makes she has to live with them. So Andy, should all those that oppose of Barack Obama be fired as well, after all they are saying and doing far more than what we're saying about Palin?
Outrageous, how dare Katie Couric ask Palin what newspapers she reads.
Andy...per fect! Every time she speaks I'm reminded of the Peter Sellers movie "Being There". She's in a different world, and I'm amazed at the number of people who buy into it.
HA! Thanks for the best laugh of the morning!!!
Why do I have a very strong feeling that if Palin reads this she will take it literally and send this guy a thank you note.
Biden also deserves an Oscar for not condescending to SP during the debate. He had to do every maneuver as not to step on her delicate OUT HER FREAKIN LEAGUE ego.
Andy: Exactly.
In fact, at no time during the campaign did Palin ever take an opportunity to express her views on any substantive issue.
The 'gotcha' Media never asked, because the McCain campaign figured out early on that Palin didn't have the 'knowledge base' to discuss real issue.
When Palin couldn't anwer the simple question 'What do you read?' ....... we knew it too.
Maybe she should, and maybe she shouldn't, but the decision is up to her corporate bosses and not by some panel of judges who decice whether journalistic standards were observed. I gave up watching the media (in contrast to following the press) some time ago and I am befuddled as to why so many people rely on such flimsy reporting so obviously framed to maximize the audience's feeling that the issues as presented are how they need to be viewed...o h, right. Profits are the result of viewer numbers. r should that be G.E. I don't wonder.
Even wonder why the keepers of journalistic excellence (or so they say of themselves) never suggest that in return for having the legal right to pedal their programming they should contribute to a media outlet that is free from commercial and political interests, independent of the gross numbers of viewers and instead focus on being an outlet for unbiased and actively researched and objectively verified journalism? Gee I wonder...o
So funny! Can you imagine if SP ran for president, she would have to debate President Obama. Perhaps someone should compare/contrast their books.
Palin is a carny. Period.
Hmm. Gibson's frumpy old uncle thing is no act. Don't know why he didn't warm to Palin. After all, he's an old right winger himself. I remember him badgering Obama and Hillary at the infamous Pa. primary debate about "high tax rates" that inhibit economic expansion -- otherwise known as "supply-side" thinking -- a Reaganite notion was discredited twenty years ago. Old Charlie is a rich, smug, Village mouthpiece for the wealthy who, like Couric and all the rest (e.g. the established wisdom that "the public is happy with their health care -- what's all this complaining?") like to masquerade as "objective journalists".
My guess is Sarah was just too outside the Village to be taken seriously. She's never had dinner with any of these people at Blackie's or hobnobbed at the Correspondents Dinner. A big disqualifier. So eyebrows will be raised.
"This is a woman who lobbied to literally be a heartbeat away from the presidency ."
And she would have been praying for the LACK of a heartbeat from the moment she was sworn in so she could take control. Put another way, she couldn't be accused of going "rogue" if McAint went "morgue."
I would of thought that both of them would be fired because of a lack of any big questions. The interviews were so dull and soft soaped it just gave me one more reason to think that McCain's group did no vetting at all on the person who would be a heart beat away from the Presidency.
I really don't understand why anyone would want to read a book by her or why she has any relevancy at all, except for the fighting going on between her and her ex so close son-in-law.
Dear Andy Ostroy,
Love it, love it, love it, love it! Gave me a good chuckle and I thank you.
Right on...great piece that accurately sums up poor widdle ol' whinny palin :)
Keep it going Andy!! Good for the soul.
