Thank You Sarah Palin!

What's Your Reaction:

Sarah Palin has that magic touch. Three of the four candidates she endorsed in Tuesday's Republican primary elections were victorious: California's Carly Fiorina, who'll be running against Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer; South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley; and Terry Branstad, who seeks Iowa's governor's mansion. But just as John McCain learned in 2008, these victors will discover in November that Palin's magic is like Cinderella's carriage: Just when the party's getting hot it's pumpkin time.

2010-06-10-Palin2.jpg

Somehow, somewhere, someone ordained Palin the new head of the GOP, with special Tea Bag honors, and have deluded themselves into believing that who and what she touches today will mystically turn into November 2nd gold. Truth is, it'll be just the opposite. She's gonna single-handedly bring down the party's chances of winning back power. Just ask ole Johnny Boy.

Case in point Nevada, where Tea Party darling Sharron Angle won the GOP's nomination and will take on the highly vulnerable Majority Leader Harry Reid. Angle, widely believed to be the weakest of the three Republicans who vied for the spot, just handed Reid a gift; his best chance yet to retain his Senate seat. Reid's campaign, in an email Wednesday, is already painting her as the radical Lipton Loon she is: She wants to repeal health care reform; is against financial reform; seeks to cut Social Security benefits; and scoffs at global warming. Thank you Sarah Palin.

Over in South Carolina, Palin is betting that voters want to trade in their outgoing philandering Gov. Mark Sanford with the allegedly twice philandering Haley. Again I say, Thank You Sarah Palin.

Sarah and The Tea Baggers can crow all they want, and the mainstream media can stir this hyperbolic pot and make her out to be the Great Anointer, but her arctic awesomeness will last only as long as the primaries will allow. This is exhibition baseball folks, not the regular season. Just ask ole Johnny Boy. He got a firsthand dose of reality in terms of what mainstream Republicans and independents want. And...um....er....it wasn't Palin's brand of dim-witted, snarky, polarizing politics.

On the morning of November 3rd, Democrats across the country will be saying Thank You Sarah Palin. They might even toss in a heartfelt gracias as well to Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Newt, Bachmann and the inimitable tea-totin' team of Rand and Ron.

Oh, and here's a little vintage Palin to remind everyone just who we're talking about....

But he's not. Burying one's head in the sand does not cogent political analysis make.

Pundits like the thread's author are very effectively helping ensure a Palin win in 2012 by playing so much into her game. It's funny, Palin is dumb; no doubt. But fringies are dumber because they are helping her create teh narrative she needs to win better than her own fundy supporters could ever do.

The GOP has lowered the standards of competence and intelligence,
to the comparable degree of awarding prom "Homecoming Queen" to a toad.
It's sad, it's embarrassing, it's angry, it's hilarious....It's the GOP!
And yes, Andy...it's true. Thank You Sarah Palin!!!

I don't; the sheer possibility that they could win is too terrifying
08:39 AM on 06/23/2010
Any democrat with a brain dreads that ticket. The cultural zeitgeist is stacking in favior of a dumb, everyman (gal) win lik ein 1980. Myopic ostrich's like the author of this thread can keep burying their heads in teh sand, but it doesn't change reality.

We should all be very afraid of Palin...not playing to her game by using fringy fury to elevate her to martyr status with teh right, which is what we have been doing since January 2009.

There was a very good reason that Scott Brown told Sarah to stay away from his campaign.

Same goes for both (R) governors of NJ and VA...

I am a conservative who looks over liberal/statist sites, listens to NPR etc. (how many of you really listen to Rush or read conservative sites instead of relying on the almost 100% incorrect interpretation of those sources). Reading liberal sites has given me perspective and it has taught me that History is not the Left's strong point. So, let me put Sarah Palin in a form that your audience might understand. Palin is Obi-wan Kenobe, defeated, but in defeat she "has become more powerful than you can possibly imagine". Parenthetically, it is good to see that mutiple articles in today's edition focus on the possibility of Palin receiving breast implants. All the important issues are dealt with here at the Huffington Post.

Commentary such as the above article also once again point out the duplicity of the Left. President Clinton can get a BJ in the Oval Office ("hey, that's his personal life") and commit perjury and that is "OK". Republican Candidate Haley gets merely accused of having an affair (by people associated with her opponent) and the Left is full of moral indignation.

One could go on but to what useful end.
01:54 PM on 06/11/2010
Maybe if the Rightwingnuts hadn't tried to IMPEACH Clinton over his BJ, the left would be willing to overlook all of the right's peccadilloes.

No one tried to impeach Clinton over the BJ, it was the unbelievable gall with which he lied that got people ire up.
04:11 PM on 06/11/2010
Natalie,

The impeachment charges were perjury and obstruction of justice, the same charges that led to President Clinton being disbarred by the Arkansas Bar. Had you or I committed perjury, we would be in serious trouble and probably in jail.

That's right.

YOUR side made the rules...Impeach Clinton....and now YOUR side is found guilty of the same "crimes" and don't demand the same consequences.

You are the very definition of "hypocrisy"....it's YOUR faux morality that is the issue.

I wrote to close my initial entry, "One could go on but to what useful end." Given your reply above, that comment certainly was prescient.

Thanks for the ad hominem attack. Your comments pretty much make my case. I suppose I should thank you for that.
Obviously, you are interested in politics. Perhaps if you used complete sentences or conceived and then skillfully developed a substantial idea rather than striking out at others, we could all have an interesting dialogue. Perhaps you could thereby influence opinion in a positive fashion. Having read through some of your 4840 comments made on this site since June 2009, I suggest you might want to take a break and lay off politics for a while or at least go outside and take a couple of deep breaths.

Palin doesn't do her homework. She probably has no idea what policies these candidates support. She just swoops in when the candidate she endorses is already in the winners circle, meaning not needing Palin's endorsement at all.
Sarah is like a reality show contestant, she is famous for NOTHING.

I am no fan of Sarah Palin (but was impressed by the busty photo of her posted on this site in another article asking if she had enhancement,)

But you must watch her and treat her like combustible material. Handle it right and it doesn't do harm; drop your guard for a moment and it can all explode.

She has shifted her strategy from ebdorsing any old extremist wing nut to supporting more mainstream candidates (Fiorina, Branstead, Hailey.)

And when the author mocks Reid's opponent Angle for her views, the author lists views that are actually pretty mainstream for today's GOP.

I do not believe Hailey in SC is an adulterer and when the author makes silly remarks as he did in his piece about that, combined with his elitist, dismissive view about this very dangerous movement going on now in america that is moving mainstream, he becomes one of the matches that lights off that combustible material.,

Let me repeat for the knee jerkers and the one-line responders:

Reid's teabagger opponent expresses views that are mainstream GOP.
Reid's teabagger opponent expresses views that are mainstream GOP.

However, "mainstream GOP" views are currently several clicks away from mainstream america.

Sarah Pay-lin endorsed candidates who were already in the lead. Candidates she endorsed who were NOT leading. Did not win. Carly, Haley and Angle were leading without Pay-lin. I could have endorsed them and they still would have won. The only reason Angle won is because Lowden was a "screw up". Not beccause Pay-lin endorsed her.

06:21 AM on 06/15/2010
Sarah did endorse those that were ahead. But then, most candidates get endorsed if they are going somewhere. I do not believe that Nikki Haley is an adulterer. I think she was smeared in that good old South Carolina way by the "good old boys." I hope to high heaven the gist of this article is right, but you need to be careful. I do not think Sarah P. endorsed Sharron Angle. She gave a "shout out"to the Chicken lady Lowden. Her endorsements do have the effect of alerting the nation to a fellow nut job. She places one of her famous targets on their back. I just want to point out that Palin is a real phenomenon and it is fun to make fun of her, but she also has a lot of publicity power. She scares me frankly. She does not know what she is doing, but she just blasts on full speed ahead for the sheer fun on being in the limelight and in the money. I agree with the author's premise that the general election will be the real telling of the story. I am not sure how it will come out. I hope sane heads prevail.
03:03 AM on 06/11/2010
I hope he's correct. It always seems that the Palin and teabagger ilk get a whole lot of media coverage as if they are a mainstream force, while "the left" either gets no press or is simply and immediately labeled as "lunatic fringe".

No, it's NOT fringe at all to wear tri-corner hats, staple tea bags to a misspelled sign,
misrepresent American history, and spout conspiracies about our President being born in Kenya. Nope, not fringe at all.

Sarah Palin is the best thing to ever happen to the Democrats. She is out there supporting every nutzoid teabagger out there.

I can only hope these predictions are accurate. . But who knows, there are some pretty unintelligent people out there who think this woman is a god-send wise voice of reason in american politics. . I've even heard people say, 'i like her because she reminds me of me.' That is exactly why she is not fit to lead the people.

Nick,
Agree. Notice that Palin is not in politics. She'll never again hold elected office. She quit as governor, Murkowski won't move, Begich is still 4 years away, she's too divisive to run for president, she won't settle for a "smaller" office, she's having too much fun and making too much money as a celebrity to get back to the everyday world of politics. She'll continue to speak about politics, but as time moves on, so will her influence over political issues.
12:14 PM on 06/12/2010
i think that if sarah did get elected to the presidency she would run up against the same problem that she had with the governorship of alaska and that bush ran up against... it's hard work. in bush' case, i always thought that he never really wanted to be president, he wanted to be an ex president with all of the prestige that (normally) comes with the position. up until 911 he had more vacation time than any other president.

Same reason Bush was elected. "I like him because he seems like the kind of guy you could have a beer with." Not much to go on when you're electing a US President, and especially when your would-be beer buddy is a dry drunk, but that's what happens when you have a large number of low-information voters.

Agree. Relatives of mine were all ga-ga over her when she slithered onto the national stage. They were all, " She's a soccer mom, she hunts moose, she's outdoorsy, that's why we like her." I said to them, " You don't play soccer, hunt moose, or shoot things from a helicopter yourselves, why the hell would you admire things that you don't do???"
