The Sleazy GOP Attack Machine Kicks Into High Gear: Welcome to "F**K Whitey" and "RadicalVille"

It's only been three days since Sen. Barack Obama historically won the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. But the Republican venom against the candidate and his wife Michelle is starting to spew. The viciousness is enough to make you sick, and it's a clear indication that the Obama team, if it doesn't respond effectively, could end up on the ropes for the next five months trying to defend itself from the same sort of reprehensible SwiftBoating that John Kerry faced four years ago.

The Republicans are great at framing issues and labelling candidates. And the new buzzword for Obama is radical. Right-wing radio host Sean Hannity has even re-named his show the "Stop Radical Obama express." On his program Thursday he literally said "radical" about every fourth word. Radical, radical, radical. Get ready, Democrats. We're gonna hear that word more in the next five months than we've heard in a lifetime.

Listening to Hannity's program makes you wonder if he and his kool-aid-drunken listeners are not part of some twisted, brainwashed cult. They greet each other with "you're a great American" and depart with "God bless you." The level of ignorance that flows freely on this program is astounding. Hannity's mission is clearly to poison anyone who comes within earshot of him with lies and deception about the Obamas. Here's a few of his shameless rants from Thursday:

"I am telling you, Barack Obama will move this country in a direction that is so radical that it will shock your senses."

"He (Obama) has views that would probably shock the average American."

"He's a Radical left winger, to the left of George McGovern."

And on 1960's terrorist William Ayers, embattled Chicago developer Tony Rezko and the Reverends Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger: Obama is "a phony. A friend of all these people, and who will associate with anyone who can help him politically."

Throughout his program Hannity hammered home the term "radical associations" to describe these controversial relationships. It's abundantly clear that Hannity's goal for the next five months is to scare the hell out of his regular audience, and anyone else who might be listening for that matter.

Make no mistake: the constant regurgitation of the word "radical" is meant to conjure up all sorts of fear, anger and racial prejudice. Think "radical Muslim." Think "angry black man." Think Willie Horton. This sort of pandering to the racist dumbasses of America is beyond despicable, but it's what the GOP does best. It's pure propaganda. And like all good propaganda, if you say it enough it sticks.

The demonizing of Obama was also evident on the Mark Levin radio program Thursday, where the nominee was accused of just about everything short of eating babies. Here's a snippet of Levin's lies and deception: "Barack Obama has been hostile to Jews and to the state of Israel for years." Oh really Mark? Perhaps you'd like to back that up with some actual facts? Ooops, sorry. There's nothing about facts in the Rovian playbook.

The Republican Party has begun piling on as well. The RNC didn't waste any time after the announcement of Rezko's corruption and fraud convictions this week to launch its new "Obama's Money Man" attack ad linking Obama to the real-estate developer. Expect the RNC and its surrogates to bang out more videos these next five months than MTV.

The attacks are not just limited to candidate Obama. Just like the vitriol spewed towards Theresa Heinz Kerry in 2004, Michelle Obama is now reaping the wrath of these vicious thugs. The new rumor circulating is that a videotape exists of Michelle and the Nation of Islam's Minister Louis Farrakhan in which she allegedly says "Fuck Whitey" at one point. This despicable rumor was spread all day and night Thursday by the right-wing talking heads. "If this is true, he's done" they all giddily gushed over and over and over again. It's absolutely disgusting, and worse, it's all too familiar. Welcome to the Republican coffee table, where the Rovian playbook is proudly on display.

And over on Sirius Radio's Patriot channel (I love this, btw. The right-wing station is called "Patriot" while the left wing's is called ... well ... "Left." Talk about framing), conservative host Andrew Wilkow could not believe how angry, stern and scary Michelle Obama looked in a NY Times photo earlier in the week. Mark my words, they are going to crucify this woman between now and November 4th.

To say the campaign is going to get ugly is a gross understatement.

It's only been three days since Sen. Barack Obama historically won the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. But the Republican venom against the candidate and his wife Michelle is...

I am sure the NY Times try another attack on McCain using their famous " Sources" . Last one backfired . Sleazy Liberal will try anything even eat their own like the recent Vanity Fair nonsense about Bill Clinton all to help Obama.

Frankly I couldn't be in the same ROOM with Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers without spitting in his FACE. Yes Obama is a Radical. Hannity is correct.

So you are predicting an attack on Barack Obama's record of heroic military service?

Oh, that's right -- he doesn't have one.

But that won't stop the Democrats from continuing to attack John McCain's.

There are different kinds of service to one's country, and Barack Obama's community service to help life the lives of Americans on Chicago's south side is laudable. The tragedy of your comments and the threat of the Republican line of attacks is that they have worked in the past. The proof that these petty and hateful kinds of attacks works lies in the evidence of the suffering that Republican policies and leadership have produced here and around the world. The fact that this is all Republicans can come up with to recommend themselves and their leaders should cause you to feel great shame. Because it really is your fault.

The War Hero platform is getting old .Being from the vietnam era ,the ONLY heros I recall from that war ,are the NAMES on the V/N memorial wall .The ONLY heros I see now are the young men and women who are NOT returning home alive and the ones who are that are mentally broken down!!McCain was a survivor from the V/N war .It is a shame to the memories of those who have died in ALL our wars for anyone to use the word HERO to further their political career .Even if McCain was running as a democrat or an independant ,he still IS NOT a hero in my eyes, he is a survivor .The TRUE Heros are those who have died for this unjustified war of Bush's ,Cheneys and McCains !! All of us survivors of the V/N era REMEMBER that 'war' and now our own are dieing in another war mistake .I'm sorry I just am so tired of the 'HERO' b/s .But McCain has no other claim to fame to boost him during this election.I remeber well who helped McCain get into politics ,the famous Phoenix 40.I would never vote for one of them then nor would I now.

John McSame has no ideas for the worst economy in decades, no ideas for the highest oil prices ever, no plan for Iraq, no more benefits for GIs on their fourth and fifth tours to Iraq, no plan to get the terrorist who killed the most US civilians in US history.

All he's got is hate to sell. An accomplished lawyer who strengthened his community, a loving father, still married to an accomplished woman for 16 years, a guy who correctly spoke in opposition to starting the war in Iraq. He's a radical?

Then America could use a whole lot more radicals like him.

Maybe with his ties to the powerfull Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship ,he could give every American a case of beer to drown their sorrows in while they lose their jobs, homes, and their lives in Iraq ?His political career has been FUNDED by one of the number one killers out here ,in 2007 alcohol related deaths were the highest they had ever been since 1992 !! Would McCain be willing to sever his ties to the Alcohol business and return ALL the money he got during the beginning of his political career that came from Alcohol sales ,would his wife be willing to dump ALL her holdings in Alcohol and denounce the fact that is how Cindy became so rich ,from the selling of a substance that takes a life every few minutes in this country ?A candidate that has been funded by 'blood' money from day one just is NOT good presidental material !!That's like placing a cocain dealer into the office of president.Alcohol related deaths ! There are 1.4 million drunk driving arrests in this country every year and most of those arrests involve a DEATH. McCain refrains from voteing on measures affecting the alcohol business.Check out his voteing records for yourselves.

Hannity has been doing this for a few months now, on both TV and radio. For his TV craziness, the News Hounds have been keeping track:

I think Hamas should endorse Hannity ,he spews more hatred than they do not to mention the FREE publicity Hannity has gave them..Farrakan should publicly state he thanks Hannity for all the FREE publicity he has gave his group .Fox should have never signed that contract with Hannity, now they are stuck with him.

Andy Ostroy writes "The level of ignorance that flows freely on this program is astounding."

Yes it is.

Hannity once claimed that everyone got the same amount of money back from the Bush tax cuts. More recently, he claimed that 22 million jobs were created under Reagan although the actual number is 15 million.

Radical isn't a bad thing unless you're one of the groups profiting from GOP incompetence and corruption. Hannity won't have a job when the GOP is irrelevant, so he has to do his whining now.

I guess the "wrong" wing nutjobs are scared that Sen Obama might get elected. That would deny the bush gang their Gerald Ford, when the criminal investigations start! After all, what is more frightening to those who have subverted our Constitution, the Bill of Rights and everything else that's dear to Americans, than a strong Democratic government and the investigations into the crimes comitted by those currently abusing their powers. I can only hope that the American electorate has the good sense to vote Democratic this fall, BECAUSE THE ASS THEY'LL SAVE WILL THEIR OWN!

Radical, to the left of George McGovern? What do Hannity's listeners even know about McGovern? Has he run out of dangerous radical liberals? He must have forgotten about Ted Kennedy, because I can't see him backing off Ted just because he has cancer. But what about Jane Fonda, Che Guevara, Stalin, Abbie Hoffman? What about those hated initials JFK, RFK, MLK, and the most feared of all, FDR? He's down to George McGovern?

I just noticed something, rereading the article. It used to be enough to call somebody Liberal, and many people would automatically, obediently hate them. See what's happening here? It's no longer enough! They have to not only jack it up to Radical, but beat the listeners over the head with it!! Can you smell the fear? Not the fear they're trying to generate because it worked for them before, but the fear of their long-term plan collapsing, and their control slipping away... This is going to be one interesting campaign. I hope everybody is psyched to combat dirty tricks we haven't even thought of yet, because a fleet of kitchen sinks just appeared at the edge of the radar screen.

I may be optimistic but I'm thinking that the extremist propaganda won't work this time and will probably backfire on them.
10:34 PM on 06/06/2008
Nothing facutal to report, now they are just making up stuff. Michelle was talking from the pulpit about President Bush and asked a series of rhetorical questions: Why'd he do nothing after Katrina? Why'd he... etc., etc, several such questions in series.

I pity Faux News. Once Obama is president, they will not know what to say without getting their daily White House talking points. Maybe they will just spin themselves off the TV "dial" altogether.

You folks must either be hard of hearing or unable to discern dialect. She said "WHY'D HE" and NOT "whitey"

I am concerned that these Republican smears against Obama labeling him as a radical, marxist, terrorist, etc. all have a not-so-hidden agenda of inciting their unbalanced listeners into doing something violent. As for Hannity, he's one of Rupert Murdoch's attack dogs. The responsibility for these smear and fear campaigns must lie with Murdoch and only with Murdoch.

Really?! I thought what comes out of one's mouth is the responsibility of the idiot operating said mouth!

And the GOP attack is a surprise, how? You knew this was coming.

Stop being a political hater. The intellectually challenged sleazy GOP attach machine can't help themselves. Be kind to those with a disability.

You are right on point with this article. I listen to the Sean Hannity on the BIG TALKER radio station everyday after work from 5pm to 6pm. This man is dedicating a large portion of his life trying to destroy the character of Obama. Even on the Hannity & Colmes t.v. show, he dedicate 45 minutes to the defamation of character of Barack. Hannity's language is soooo angry, intentional and obvious I dont think it is capable of attracting new voters to believe that garbage. Instead, i think it is his same cesspool of hateful people summoning up excuses, no matter how hateful and dangerous, why to be against Obama. It is unrealistic to think anyone with a half of brain would take Hannity at his word. But then again they turned a hero in Kerry into someone who was a traitor against Bush who ducked the war in their time. Then again people voted Bush twice. Then again we were sold this B.S. war. Then again we voted Sonja to stay on American Idol 7 weeks too long.
11:48 PM on 06/06/2008
The difference between Kerry and Obama is that Barack will not roll over for this filth. He was gentle with Hillary, but the fight of a real Chicago politician is part of him, also.
