The Huffington Post is up 94 percent in traffic this year, has 13 million unique monthly visitors (according to Nielsen), and is poised for profitability in 2010, co-founder Arianna Huffington tells the Associated Press.

Launched five years ago (May 9, 2005), the site's content is created largely by an army of 6,000 bloggers who aren't paid and by readers who post an astounding 2.3 million comments per month, CEO Eric Hippeau says.

The site has 70 reporters and editors.

Co-founder Ken Lerer says the company is well capitalized with the majority of the $25 million investment from Oak Investment Partners in the bank. What's next? The AP's Jake Coyle writes about Lerer's plans:

"He promises that HuffPo will make a much "deeper dive" into social networks, develop more city-centric sites and a produce a lot more video."

Our senior producer Daisy Whitney caught up with Arianna Huffington in San Francisco last month at the 4A's conference; we are republishing it today.
