Data, analytics and programmatic advertising have been part of the conversation at Cannes Lions for the past couple of years. The dialogue has taken place at meeting suites, beach cabanas and at networking events. This year, for the first time, Cannes will host the Lions Innovation Festival, a two-day (6.25-26) program held in the Grand Palais with innovators in technology and digital media taking part in formal presentations and panels. And, yes, there will be awards.

MEC, the global media agency unit of WPP's Group, is one of the sponsors of the Innovation festival. Yesterday, we spoke with Carl Fremont, Global Chief Digital Officer of MEC about the Innovation festival and how it exemplifies the emerging role of technology in advertising.

Also in this interview reflects on the evolution of the Digital Content NewFronts and the viability of digital video. He joined MEC from Digitas two years ago. At Digitas, he was one of the founders of the NewFronts.

The Road to Cannes Begins

This video is the first in a series leading up to Cannes Lions. The videos will feature interviews with thought leaders on the upcoming Festival and the trends and topics which will be explored. Produced in New York and London, the series sponsored by Coull.
