CANNES -- When considering the future of media over the next decade, the Daily Mail's North America CEO Jon Steinberg thinks we have to be open to what may have seemed impossible even two years ago.

"When I look at my 6-year-old daughter, I'm pretty sure she's not going to drive a car," he says in an interview with Beet.TV recorded at Cannes. He also observes that Oculus and Microsoft HoloLens are set to transform entertainment experiences, and email "will clearly not be the way it is now."

To give an example of something whose ascendance would have been hard to predict, Steinberg notes that Snapchat now has nearly 100 million daily active users.

"It's a platform that didn't really exist in any real way a few years ago," he says. "I think Facebook views it as a real threat."

Before joining the Daily Mail in 2014, Steinberg was president and chief operating officer of BuzzFeed.

This segment is part of Beet.TV's "Media Revolutionaries," a 50-part series of interviews with key innovators and leaders in the media, technology and advertising industries, sponsored by Xaxis and Microsoft. Xaxis is a unit of WPP.

Steinberg was interviewed for Beet.TV by David J. Moore, Chairman of Xaxis and President of WPP Digital. The interview took place on the Daily Mail yacht during the Cannes Lions Festival.
