SAN BRUNO, CA -- YouTube is cultivating a new crop of promising video creators with top-tier film school education scholarships and direct grants.

The giant video site has selected 20 winners to attend intensive, on-campus programs that are four-to-eight weeks long at the University of Southern California and the Columbia College Television Center. Ten will go to USC and 10 will go to Columbia College. Students will study videography, social media and other related topics.

Winners of the scholarships will be announced by YouTube on May 2.

Separately, YouTube is awarding grants of $35,000 dollars to promising videographers in a program called YouTube Next. The 25 winners of these grants will also be announced on May 2.

Last week, Beet.TV visited YouTube headquarters for this interview with Bing Chen, who manages these programs.
