On a summer day very much like today several years ago I found myself swimming with friends at my neighbor's pool. The day was decidedly ordinary. We swam almost every day in the summer.

My little brother, who is four years younger than me, found his way to the deep end of the pool without anyone noticing and started to drown. When I finally noticed, time slowed down as I panicked. I still couldn't swim well enough to help my drowning brother, none of us could. I started yelling at the top of my lungs for help. What felt like several minutes past when a man from my neighbor's house who I didn't know ran out of the house and dove into the pool to save my drowning little brother.

My brother coughed up some water and had difficulty breathing but he was breathing. He had got there just in time. Any longer would have likely killed him. Crisis averted. Thank you to the man who heard my cries for help. I never had the chance to thank him properly. Although I never saw him again I will always be grateful for his "anything but ordinary" act of heroism.
