This week at The Pollination Project, we recognize seven grantees across the globe in East Africa who are receiving seed grants that are inspiring change and transformation in rural communities. In Kenya, girls are afforded employment opportunities utilizing local fruit while up north in Uganda a community group reintroduces native plants to the land. This corner of the world is working together for sustainable change.

Joe Onen Richard and Ribe Aye-Teko, Tree Nursery Planting and Distribution, Lamwo, Uganda. Native trees are distributed and planted while participants partake in environmental education workshops.
Esther Nyakwaka, Fresh Juice, Better Lives!, Nairobi, Kenya. Young female youth are empowered to use local fruit as a means of economic stability and independence.
Moses Mukongo and Jackline Kibe, GROW BIOINTENSIVE Mini-Farming, Kitale, Kenya. Community members train one another in sustainable food production and best practices in small-scale farming.
Milton Oboka and Arnold Bosire, Greening The Mind, Migori, Kenya. Youth in schools plant 100,000 trees and form environmental clubs to promote practices in waste management and energy conservation.
Katharine Fox and Osman Ganafa, Schools in Charge, Mukono, Uganda. One hundred secondary school youth are trained in adolescent development, life skills and peer counseling.
Ken Mutuma, Chronix Outreach Initiative, Meru, Kenya. Rural community members are trained in health education and promote localized and affordable solutions.
Hifadhi Africa Organization and Charles Mwakio, E-Learning Systems for Nomadic Schools in Kenya, Chemolingot, Kenya. A free e-library provides youth and community members with access to thousands of articles, books and videos.
