Looking for midterm bright spots, beleaguered conservatives are taking heart in a race in which the GOP candidate lost: Connecticut. On Fox News, Michelle Malkin predicted the defeat of Ned Lamont -- who she dubbed "the first YouTube candidate" -- will lead to "cannibalism in the blogosphere." This seemed to make her happy.
On CNN, Bill Bennet, who also got a kick out of Connecticut, looked at Lieberman's exit poll numbers -- drawing 35% of Republican voters and 26% of Democrats -- and, with a gleam in his eye, declared: "And you know what Joe Lieberman was? For the war."
Of course, the analysts couldn't be more wrong about what happened in Connecticut. Lieberman started sounding like Jack Murtha, while Lamont got off the Iraq train that had carried him to victory in the primary -- and, by the time he jumped back on, it was too late. That's the takeaway from Connecticut. Period. The end.
