Happy 4th of July! Cynical flag-waving and patriotic posturing have been rampant in DC lately. Exhibits A and B: Orrin Hatch calling the flag-burning amendment "the most important thing the Senate could be doing" and Rep. Charlie Norwood claiming during the recent House debate on Iraq, "It is time to stand up and vote. Is it al Qaeda or is it America?" With this as backdrop, some of our bloggers have taken this Independence Day opportunity to weigh in on the real meaning of patriotism, independence, and all things red, white, and blue.
