Sunday Roundup

What's Your Reaction:

This week, Meg Whitman, running for governor of California, broke the record for personal spending on a campaign -- so far, she's donated to herself $119 million. I wonder if she regrets not using the Buy It Now option on eBay -- she probably could have gotten her campaign for a lot less. In Delaware, Christine O'Donnell's upset victory was a big boost to the Tea Party movement, Sarah Palin's clout as an endorser, and comedy writers everywhere. Karl Rove wasn't happy, so O'Donnell has to be doing something right. But, with all the problems we're facing, I'm not sure masturbation is as big an issue for most Americans as it seems to be for O'Donnell. And with unemployment so high, there are a lot of people sitting at home with time on their hands, looking for no-cost entertainment. Budget hawks rejoice: self-pleasure is deficit neutral.

seems to me those who are at home with no work should be the ones we delegate and support to go out and be the ones to do the work we on this web sight refuse to do... suport them to go to Waeshington DC and pull a Gandha civil disobeance sit in big time...we don't leave till there is change... be it a day or a month...and sence we here on this sight are so much for cheering the other guy on while we sit home this is a match made in haven... if we took up a collection on the phone system like was done for Haiti it would not cost more per each than giving up your starbucks for the day and you would not have to leave your adictive keyboard and you would support those who have the time to do your dirty work and help save your sorry buts now heres a real chance do do some good if not... you know what that white stuff is on the top of chicken manure... of course you don't... well its you... sorry mentors but I did not use a bad word did I give it a try nothing else you have done on the sight has moved many rocks... this might...

True, masturbation is not a big deal to most Americans. Our arms are long enough.

POTUS: Thanks.. Called you in today because some emphatic moves are sorely needed... They'll be seen as unprecedented..Republicans'll scream bloody murder, saying we're overthrowing; all thatcrap, (Who cares? - they'll never help.) ...I don't care anymore... Something's GOT to get done...

Reid: Let's see, here... Mr.President, you want us to legislate Campaign Finance Reform through RECONCILIATION?

POTUS: Yep... With CitizensUnited, Rightwingers've desperately taken the gloves off... Calling it through reconciliation affects the budget for campaign finance, targetting corporate contributors big time...
Time we fought back, inspite of what some maythink, we needto fight corruption.. It'll cost us.. Hell, I may lose big, but big differences while we're here're needed, for the nation; and its future.

Pelosi: Mr.President. It's an historic, excellent idea, but many in House won't comply. They're scared to lose their contributors.

Reid: Yeah, forget any Nelson, Lincoln, Byhe support, ... Blue dogs'll howl...

POTUS: Right. Well, they're cowards. They'll beseen as the cowards they are, along with republicans who've cared for nothing but their own agenda. Hopefully Americans'll speakup and haveour backs against corruption. We'll have enough votes to make the difference; showing thinking Americans RightandLeft,... All incomes, we fight forTHEM..... Everything wrong withour country's because of lobbyists andspecial interests.

Pelosi: It's too late for this election...

POTUS: Sure.. effective Jan. 1st.... If majority's lost, let's watch 'em try to take this down.

ALL: LET'S DO IT.

Please excuse the caps, but I honestly don't have any other way to say this....

HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU GET BACK 119 MILLION DOLLARS YOU'VE INVESTED IN GETTING ELECTED, TO A POSITION THAT PAYS NO MORE THEN HALF A MILLION A YEAR????
WITH THIS IN OUR FACES, WHERE IS THE DISCONNECT THAT WE DON'T GET TO TRY TO CONVINCE US THAT BEING IN POWER DOES NOT CORRUPT?

That alone, in my book, absolutely disqualifies this person from EVER being honestly qualified to run ANy political office of so much importance to so many.

What people in public office still do not recognize is the extreme detachment between voters and elected, in terms of trust and confidentiality. The Special Interest Lobby has usurped the voting process by very clever and concise manipulation of the 'democratic' elective process, the funding and by obscene campaign contributions. Strange bedfellows emerge and once again voters determine the lesser of evils...

That 5 of the GOP nominees are so pro-choice that even unwanted pregnancies must be carried full term, simply offers proof that something is drastically wrong with our governing (and how this system currently operates)- despite assurances constitutionally of separation of church and state. The conservative right is derelict in their covenant and majority of voters will remove long standing incumbents from office, almost at any cost. The liberal left has turned socialism into bankrupting the future for our children.

And all the mad men (and women) are dancing on the Hill.

Wake up, America, it is almost too late!

I have a tiny disagreement with you...socialism is what is helping people. What's wrong with that? Oh right...we're only supposed to give welfare to the wealthy, right?

Arianna, your Post on Sunday Roundup" was beautiful! I especially liked the part referring to Christine O'Donnell. Arianna's response to O'Donnell's fixation on masturbation as one of the great issues of our time was done with superb wit and made me laugh out loud. Well done!

ARIANNA, when are you going to bring up the OBVIOUS SOLUTION to the economy: THE END OF FREE TRADE, which is the RESUMPTION OF TARIFFS?

TARIFFS, TARIFFS, TARIFFS.

Was Alexander Hamilton wrong? Was Abraham Lincoln wrong? Was every single economic advisor and theorist since 1791 wrong? Why is it that MILTON FRIEDMAN so dominates our economy?

The American Worker needs PROTECTIONIST POLICIES....they worked in the past, and without them, since the adoption of "Free Trade", we have suffered in the absence of them. BRING BACK TARIFFS NOW.

In case you're interested, around 63.4% of households had an income of below $50,000 (2008 dollars) in 1967. That had fallen to 49.6% by 2008. Around 30.5% of households had an income of between $50,000 and $100,000 (2008 dollars) in 1967. That had fallen to 29.8% by 2008. Around 6% of households had an income of above $100,000 (2008 dollars) in 1967. That had risen to 20.5% by 2008. I wonder just how many people are going to have to be out of work, foreclosed on and lining up at shelters before we force the politicians to drag the bankers out and prosecute them. Is our country just going to go down without even a whimper? We are besieged by internal enemies. They are the banks and other corporations who are systematically destroying our country for their own profit with the help of corrupt government agencies and politicians. I wonder if 100 million unemployed will be enough to wake folks up? 60 million unemployed hasn't raised a pulse.

President Obama is doing just that. He has now passed the Financial Reform bill that begins to reign in those crooks. Look the last administration left us whih a stacked deck of corruption. It taakes time to weed that back out.

Well, if this financial reform bill is so great, why are the banks foreclosing on literally millions of people after they accepted the stimulus money to lower mortgage payments? Obama better get on with it because half the families in town have their backs against the wall with a banker puke threatening foreclosure. The only ones who are ok are the people with government jobs.

Better to start with the Politions that pushed Fannie and Freddie to push the bankers to sell variable rate mortages to people who could barily afford the then lowest intrest rates. Starting with Barney Franks.

And of course none of that inflated money found it's way into the private accounts of the bankers. It was all good capitalism and market demand before the politicians had the nerve to repeal bank regulation.

37 million Californians, this woman spends 119 million of her own money to get elected. thats over 3 million per Californian citizen.
I bet she would win this election if she handed every Californian 1 million. That’s a savings of 82 million and this is a business women?
06:23 PM on 09/19/2010
Ooops. Check the arithmetic. That's over three dollars per person, not 3 million.

I watch it all with bored interest. Global warming is accelerating at a catstrophic rate, the rest of the environmental situation is no better across the board. This is the last gasp of the radical right for sure. Let them win a few seats, even take the House in Nov. By I the time Obama goes up for re-election it will be getting so hot, and there will be so much more catstrophe due to rising sea levels, melting arctic ice, severe weather, climate change and global warming that it will be unbelievable. Two years of the radical right back in control will do so much more damage to the country it will also be unreal. I just shrug at it all now as I watch the absolute stupidity of 90% around me, blind to truth and fact that absolutely stares them in the face now.
06:21 PM on 09/19/2010
I've been thinking the same thing. No one is talking about global climate change and my guess is that no will talk about it until it's much too late to do anything meaningful about it. I doubt, though, that the climate will have worsened enough by 2012 to become the political issue that we know it eventually will be. That moment may be a decade or two away.

With this kind of candidate, the RIGHT isn't taking anything. As with McCain, they self-destruct before it even becomes a race. Give the voting females of this nation at less some credit. They can still think while standing in that booth, deciding on things to come....
