Some post-Inauguration predictions:
Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma will refuse all future cold-weather bookings.
Aretha Franklin will now be known as "The Queen of Soul...and Funky Hats."
Rev. Lowery will be invited to throw out the first pitch at the home openers of the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians.
Jacques Chirac will not be renting Cujo anytime soon.
George Bush will not be on Scooter Libby's Christmas card list this year.
In the Dick-Cheney-in-a-wheelchair-movie-reference-derby, "Mr. Potter" will beat out "Ernst Stavro Blofeld."
The swearing in will not be the last time President Obama and Chief Justice Roberts are not on the same page.
2. As a well paid, non-homeowner, my tax payments are higher than most of my co-workers. Back when one of our governors was making hay over "welfare queens," I made a deal with my "riled up" co-workers. I told them that I would "apply" my tax payments to welfare recipients, taking a chance some of my hard-earned money would go to "welfare queens." As a result, their tax payments would have to go for the bombs, as my money was already spoken for. As some of them attempted to protest that they didn't want to pay for bombs, I said it was too late, I'd already spoken for the welfare recipients, and they were out of luck. I also pointed out it was pointless for them to continue complaining about something I was "paying for," but that I might have a word or two to say about what they were paying for. There were fewer complaints in the lunch room after that.
As usual, I love your post.
Your thoughts are right on, w/ your sense of humor showing through. Thanks so much, and keep up the good work.
"You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed, and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes."
Frankly, I think this is Obama's "Red Pill" moment. The USA is insolvent. Period. Build a bridge and get over it. We have grown drunk on debt and greed, and as with any twelve step program, the first step is to acknowledge the severity of the problem. In the words of Christ, "the truth will set us free".
The root cause of this has been eight years of wreckless spending in a massive overreaction to 3000 deaths. Add this on top of a warped accounting process that permits the Federal government to lend to itself to cover social security liabilities, the demise of national savings, and an entire Boomer generation unprepared for retirement and you have a toxic mix of fear, greed, denial and lies.
So what's it going to be, the blue pill or the red pill?
Can we support a President who is 100% honest with us?
Yes we can.
Regarding President Obama and Chief Justice Roberts not being on the same page....
A second glance reveals the following...
Both are considered to be constitutional experts.
Each has the constitutional expertise to do the others' job.
Conclusion...
Imagine the roles reversed.
President Roberts?
Chief Justice Obama?
Would the nation be better off in the long run?
Have a great day everyone.

In 1888, one of my favorite thinkers wrote, "The newspaper reader says: this party destroys itself by making such and such mistakes. My HIGHER politics says: a party which makes such mistakes has already reached its end; it has lost its sureness of instinct...one could almost define what is bad in this way."
Peace and Be Well.
That's a good one! :)
The J Crew website will continue to crash from the huge number of people trying to buy Obama clothing ... but I just checked and it's not for sale.
White will be the colour to wear to weddings again ... for honoured guests not necessarily the bride.
The sale of dictionaries (online and hard copy) will go up as once again folks are required to understand words of more than one syllable spoken by the President.
Just a few thoughts.
Interesting that you would say "I am a conservative but..."
I think she used to be a Republican. I think the problem for her is that most republicans don't uphold the values of "conservatism" anymore and haven't for sometime. Reagan and both Bush's spent money with absolute wild abandon. What's more is they showed very little concern for our most precious values. I'll let you try to figure out what those values are.
