Thanksgiving 2011: Occupy Gratitude

Happy Thanksgiving, HuffPosters! There is much to be thankful for this year. I'm thankful that the UC Davis police are not in charge of security at our offices. I'm thankful that Herman Cain doesn't oversee HR here, that the supercommittee isn't responsible for determining our editorial budget, and that Mayor Bloomberg hasn't paid a visit to our nap rooms (he might find them a "health and fire safety hazard"). I'm thankful my daughters are home from college for the holidays. I'm thankful my move to New York has brought me a great new neighborhood filled with surprises around every corner. And I'm very thankful for our great HuffPost team -- which rose to the challenge of adding 24 new sections since March -- and for our passionate, engaged community. How about you? Why do people tell us to be thankful of are Womens & Mens over-sae ?
1) about 15,000 Mens & Womens who came back to State Side, do not
a) DO NOT have a job ?
b) live on the Street with their Kids
C) wHY ?
D) the Rich made fun of them & tell them to get a (job) !
e) What about G,W.Bush ?
F) Bush send all the "jobs" over to "China" !
G) DO YOU KNOW THAT "wAL*Mart is all China ?

I am thankful to Bradley Manning, and so many others who have sacrificed for democracy. I am thankful that the Occupy movement is staying demagogue free. I am thankful to the First People, who kept the dream of love for our dear Earth alive during this last era of conquest, plunder, consumption and debt. For myself I will get a rack of grow lights-get as many vegetable starts going as possible- occupy gardens and give out starts to help others occupy gardens.

I am grateful to live in interesting times. I am grateful to be able to afford to live, to be with my husband for another day, for my wonderful family and friends. I am grateful to be able to speak my mind without fear of being arrested. I am grateful to HuffPost for giving me information in a clear and comprehensive manner so that I can be an informed member of the world.

Hoy 25-11-2011, dia de accion de gracias. Gracias Arianna Huffington por ocupar un lugar
en tus oficinas en NYC. Es normal encontrar tantas cosas diferentes, como las que has
encontrado. Es asi, pues C, no es NYC. Digo yo, que no tenga apuro en que el mayor B.,
no haya dispensado visita al HuffPost, podria ser que un nuevo mayor si lo haga cuando sea
oportuno.ah,! otra gracias es que realmente yo no podria vivir sin el medio HuffPost, el cual
a diario es mi guia de lo que acontece en nuestro planeta. Ah,! otra cosa. Es relacionado a
tu libro ¿Como nuestros politicos estan abandonando la clase media. Este tema es un abanderado
de mi clase social por aca en america latina. Este libro es para estudiarse profundamente, ya que
el tema es muy conplejo y dificil solucion politicamente. A menos que no se tomen medidas sociales radicales.
Para el caso nuestro omitimos mencionar " y traicionando el sueño americano". Claro esto fue obvio. Ya que somos latinos americanos..

We are thankful for family and friends first and foremost. Thankful for HuffPo to finally give us a truthful and accurate reporting on so many topics of today and a blog where we feel we can meet online with intelligent discussion. We are very thankful for the Occupy Movement FINALLY bringing people to their feet to fight for the Middle Class. Finally and maybe most importantly we are thankful for the gifts from the Creator of this Earth and all that he placed on it for us to care for and we pray that those whose minds are closed to the protection of our home open them in the season we look forward to and find a reason to work with us to keep it safe.

As a social security recipient, and a military retiree, I am thankful for my good health. I have to live within my fixed income, and I am finding it increasingly harder to make ends meet due to the rising cost of just about everything across the board. To make matters worse in March 2011, my military retirement check was reduced by $31.58 each month. This was due to increase taxes which is difficult for me to understand since President Obama have stated repeatedly that NO ONE making under $250K would get a tax increase. I am not alone. Over 1.5 million military retirees pension was effected by this tax increase.

That increase in March was probably due to the bill that the President negotiated with the Republicans to extend the Bush Tax Cuts while at the same time extending unemployment insurance.

What was not well reported at the time was that the bill included a tax increase on those of us in the bottom tier of taxation, who are now asked to pay about $400 more per year in taxes - that's about right for your $31.58 per month... It's because the timing and amount fit that I think that that's the bill that did this to you.

Capitulation has its price.

Lack of negotiating skills has its price.

Unless, of course, Obama _wanted_ this outcome for some reason..... Hard to grasp why.

Thanks for your response. I think that what you refer to with the Bush tax cuts, and unemployment extensions was associated with the administrations fight with the Republicans over the increase of the debt ceiling. That fight took place only a couple of months ago. There was a change made in the tax laws that happened at the beginning of the year. That is what the 99% of us is not aware of.

2) Why didn't the Police do any thing to the Tea - parly ?

I'm thankful for the Occupy movement because now there is another Voice out there besides the Right, which has had all the attention for too long. It's someone else's turn. I was beginning to lose all hope that there was any other voice BUT the Right, and I was afraid we were going to end up just like all the other societies that were destroyed by the same Greed and Bigotry throughout history. I'm thankful that the pendulum has finally begun to move in a direction that might end up bringing society into a more balanced center, where a meeting of the minds is more possible. In spite of what they say on Fox, (sorry, Fox junkies-nothing personal) there has been no Leftward movement since the sixties. I remember those times. They were times when stuff actually got done, and lots of voices were being heard. They were tumultuous times to be sure, but great strides were made. Civil rights, marching against the Viet Nam War, days when both political parties could work together in the interest of the American people and not for a bunch of rich Corporate dragons who sit on all their piles of money under the lame excuse of "uncertainty" while Americans starve. Thank you, Occupy! And I thank God for standing with the people who dare to bring up issues we should have been talking about all along!

I am grateful that I am able to say today, one month after the death of my beloved father; that I have come to the realization that I am not diminished by his loss. I was enriched by his love and his example. I love you dad, I know you knew it. The best thing you can give your children is a happy childhood. It is the basis for one's whole expectation and outlook on life. I'm grateful for my happy childhood.
