We're Looking for Heroes. Send Us Your Nominations

We're proud today to announce that we're partnering for the second annual Red Bandanna Hero Award, which honors the ultimate, everyday hero who exemplifies the American spirit. Along with the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust and Discovery's American Heroes Channel, we're asking The Huffington Post community to help us identify and celebrate true heroism.

Does someone in your neighborhood or town deserve national recognition for something they've done, even if they don't consider themselves a hero?

The award is named for Welles Remy Crowther, who is also known as "the man in the red bandanna." Survivors of 9/11 say the man saved as many as a dozen people that day, perhaps more, in repeated acts of heroism that are hard to contemplate. Call it New York values.

Last year's award went to a Minneapolis firefighter, Jake LaFerriere, the founder of Firefighters for Healing. After suffering third and fourth degree burns in a backdraft explosion while battling a house fire, Jake met several young children while recovering in a burn unit. When he got out, he launched a nonprofit aimed at supporting young burn victims and their families.

This year's winner will not only get a $10,000 donation to the charitable organization of their choosing, they'll also be honored at Boston College's Red Bandanna Football Game on Friday, October 7, 2016. Boston College created the Red Bandanna Game in memory of Welles, an alum. AHC will also produce a vignette about the winner, which will be aired on the network and here at HuffPost.
