Top 10 Most Influential Food Trucks

Posted: 10/14/10 11:01 AM ET

Gourmet food trucks are sweeping the country's streets. Once referred to as roach coaches, mobile food has made a strong comeback. Broadcasting their whereabouts on Twitter and other networks has replaced the need to be a brick and mortar business. Aside from the help of social media, it's the unique options like; Korean Tacos, shredded BBQ Pork on a Waffle, Creme Brulee, and Kobe Beef Sliders, that has really been the key to success for these mobile foodies. So with all the hype around these delicious mobile meals, here at Klout we decided to see which food truck is the most influential.

Coming in first, is The Big Gay Ice Cream truck from New York City. Serving soft serve ice cream with a twist, like their 'Salty Pimp' which is vanilla ice cream, Dulce de Leche, sea salt, dipped in chocolate. Coming in a second on Klout's list, The Grilled Cheese Truck, who started a little over a year ago, after entering the Los Angeles 7th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational. They decided that the streets of LA needed more of the famous comfort food. @grlldcheesetruk offers anything from the traditional american cheese sandwich to a tasty 'Cheesy Mac and Rib'.

After Klout analyzed hundreds of the nation's trucks, it was determined that LA and NYC dominated the list, with a couple surprising results from Phoenix and Chicago. So here are the Nation's top 10 Food Truck Influencers.

#1: The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck

Not a traditional ice ceam truck, @biggayicecreamtruck topped Klout's list.

How about Hummingbird Kitchen in Evanston? The 28" truck is the sole impetus for Chicagoland's only currently approved ordinance that allows for cooking on the truck! Owner's of Union Pizzeria and Campagnola restaurant.

The short rib tacos w/radish-cilantro slaw to die for. Lamb with swiss chard and charred red onion & Heirloom tomato Pappa al Pomodoro soup. This menu is killer!

I'm a bit surprised RoliRoti is not on here. It is a rotisserie truck with amazing rotisserie meats that often shows up at the farmers' market at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Easily one of the best food trucks around.

Columbus Ohio is probably flying under the radar on this topic, but we've got an amazing food cart scene that has exploded this year, which includes gourmet cupcakes, Japanese crepes, and more!

I thought to myself " what the heck is a food truck "...now is see .
Do you big city types actually resort to buying food from the back of a truck ?
Do you have health inspectors that chase them down the road ?
My grandmother used to do that in the old days , they were called the milkman or the egg man.
Do they cook it in the alley or the night before ?
Next thing you know you will be traveling in tunnels underground all huddled together!

I had one of the tastiest Mexican dishes I ever had out of a winnebago in Waldendorf, Colorado. It was on the edge of a grocery store parking lot. The sauces were so full of nuanced flavor that I hold every bit of Mexican food to that standard, and they all fall short.

Green Truck! Green Truck! Green Truck! If you are in the Los Angeles area, look up Green Truck. They should be on this list.

The Munchie Machine does great business parked outside the friendly neighborhood medicinal (wink, wink) marijuana dispensary.

Not one taco truck? There must be a million of them around the southwest.

Kogi technically serves tacos. Except it's Korean BBQ tacos.

Yeah. What about one of the pioneers of taco trucks like King Taco? This list is last.

Glad to see you missed the Roli Roti truck at San Francisco's Ferry Building. More porchetta sandwiches for us.

The old Mexican taco trucks are great but this new wave is going to die. The people that open these are high on idealism and low on execution. I went to the OC foodiefest last month which had 40 food trucks parked in a lot. Most of the trucks thought they were running a gourmet kitchen with small overpriced portions that took forever to get completed. Kogi is the only truck I know that actually does a pretty good job but they weren't there. But even when these trucks do a good job, I have to hunt them down which gets old really fast.

I'll consider these trucks again if I see one in passing and the line is moving fast. Otherwise I'd rather find a sit down place.

True. I went to the Kogi truck once in Sherman Oaks. I thought the food was good but I hated the wait. This is not enough for me to hunt them down only to wait in a long slow line. There are plenty of good places to buy tacos with no wait at all.

I agree. I might be mistaken but when I watched the food truck race thing on food network I could of sworn yom yom truck was charging 10 bucks a sandwich. Please correct me if I am wrong. But for 10 bucks I at least want a seat.
