Alan de Queiroz

Science writer, biologist, and author of the book "The Monkey’s Voyage: How Improbable Journeys Shaped the History of Life"

I received a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology from Cornell University, and, within that area of study, I have written many scientific papers, as well as the book, “The Monkey’s Voyage: How Improbable Journeys Shaped the History of Life” (Basic Books, New York, 2014). Lately my attention has turned toward the subject of chronic human diseases, and, especially, what geography tells us about the causes of such maladies. I also have a deep interest in natural history, and in the changing face of nature and our relationship to it. I live with my wife Tara, daughter Hana, and son Eiji in Reno, at the junction of two landscapes that I love—the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin.
