Economics student, Harvard University
Alex Chivescu was one of the brightest students in his Michigan High School, and on his way to the Ivy League. But when he was moved to a group home outside the school district and his school continuity was imperiled, he took the extraordinary step of finding foster parents of his own. Today he is studying economics at Harvard. His life story was turned into a Hallmark Channel movie entitled, “Finding a Family.”
A first-ever amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act that focuses on the educational stability of students in foster care recently passed the Senate HELP Committee, offering the possibility that other students like Alex won't have to worry about school and what school district they live in.
