Geir H. Haarde Ambassador of Iceland to the United States (2015-) and former Minister of Iceland (2006-2009). Minister for Foreign Affairs (2005-2006) and Minister of Finance (1998-2005). Member of Parliament (1987-2009). Chairman of the Independence Party (2005-2009) and Vice-Chairman (1999-2005). Chair of Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs (1995-1998) and Chairman, Standing Committee of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region (1995–1998). President of the Nordic Council (1995). Ambassador Haarde holds an M.A. in Economics from the University of Minnesota (1977), an M.A. with distinction in International relations from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (1975).
