Amikka Smith Burl

Communications professional with over six years experience in the media industry.

Amikka Smith Burl was born in the Motor City, Detroit, Mich., and has three siblings. Known by her family as the talkative child, she took an interest in communications as she matriculated through grade school and high school. She attended Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, N.C., majoring in Mass Communications. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May 2009 and wanted to further her education in journalism. Ms. Smith Burl attended graduate school at Columbia University in the city of New York and received a Master of Science degree in Journalism. As a former television broadcaster for CWTV affiliates, Yahoo.com and MTV networks Ms. Smith Burl worked in the capacity of a content generator for Ford Motor Company. She served as a Communications Specialist for two years in the areas of broadcast media, print, and social media for the automaker as a subsidiary media liaison for Ford/UAW employees. Through the years she has gained valuable experience as a reporter, writer and radio show host. Now, she serves the County Treasurer's staff, external public relations team members and directs communication activities for the County Treasurer's social media, website, and community communications. ​Ms. Smith Burl has a wide range of knowledge in the media industry. In her spare time, she is a contributing writer for the Huffington Post.
