Amy Zalman is a writer and consultant on political violence, language, and the role of both in global public affairs. Recent work on U.S. communications with foreign publics includes the monograph, “Countering Violent Extremism: Beyond Words” and briefings before the U.S. House Armed Services Committee in the last year, on “winning hearts and minds” and military cultural education, respectively. She received her Ph.D. in Arabic modern literature and cultural history from NYU in 2003. She is the About.com guide to Terrorism Issues, a website dedicated to the history and politics of terrorism.
