Anthony Martinez

Chicago-based LGBTQ activist and political wonk working to leave this world better than when I arrived.

Anthony Martinez is the founding Executive Director and a founding board member of The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA), an Illinois lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization. Anthony was on the leadership team for the Illinois Unites for Marriage coalition that was instrumental in the successful passage of the Illinois Marriage Equality bill. He was also involved heavily in the passage of the civil union legislation in Illinois. Anthony is also a previous board member of the Association for Latino Men of Action (ALMA), which works to empower gay and bisexual Latino men through political advocacy and cultural education. Anthony also founded and was Co-Executive Director of LGBT Change, a Chicago-based non-profit organization that worked to motivate everyday LGBT people to take action for their civil rights. His work for LGBTQ rights has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun-times, National Public Radio, ABC 7 Chicago, Fox News Chicago, WGN News among other media outlets, as well as many blogs and LGBT focused news organizations including, The Advocate, Windy City Times and the Chicago Phoenix. Mr. Martinez is also a recipient of the Windy City Times 30 under 30 award that recognizes young LGBT community members that have made substantial contributions to the LGBT Community. Mr. Martinez brings over 15 years of experience working within the non-profit sector and holds a bachelor degree from Drake University.
