Bekeh Ukelina has a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Religion and Culture and a Ph.D. in African History. He is an Assistant Professor of History at the State University of New York, Cortland. His research examines the ideologies and practices of development in Africa, south of the Sahara. He focuses on key questions such as: why is Africa poor and underdeveloped? How does Africa’s history help us understand and explain its development crisis? Dr. Ukelina writes and speaks passionately about African development because his research addresses real and practical problems that over a billion people face in Africa. His most recent book, The Second Colonial Occupation: Development Planning, Agriculture, and the Legacies of British Rule in Nigeria was published by Lexington Books in August of 2017.
